The Stonewall Brigade

Sat Feb 21, 2009 4:22 am

Howdy, folks!

I was curious what the thought was behind removing The Stonewall Brigade from the April '61 Campaign. Anyone know?

Was it a cp decision due to the new no corps until '62 rule? Something else?

Apart from liking the unit and wishing it was there, it only further separates the two sides allotment of unique brigades.

-edit- I have only played four turns so far, but as I saw 'Jackson's Bde', I figured that it would not be showing up.

The brigade used to be four elite infantry regiments paired with a light infantry regiment. The elites granted the strong morale trait, and the light infantry granted the sharpshooter trait. I don't remember the exact cp cost it had.

It now is composed of two standard infantry regiments and a sharpshooter regiment and costs 2 cp. It shows up in J. Johnston's stack with Jackson embedded.

Btw, I really dig the 1* status of the VA generals. I especially dig having Longstreet from that early on in the campaign. :D

Yes, I have noticed this --- something has definitely changed for this unit. It is now just 3 elements. This first started somewhere between 1.12 & 1.13 --- maybe in the betas?

Maybe the Stonewall Brigade got dropped for historical reasons?

I mean, how can there be Stonewall Brigade that predates Jackson even getting the nickname?

The only thing about this argument is this: Let's say that to reflect his actions at 1st Bull Run the bde. is spawned in the region where Jackson is. Well, what if you never move his stack to Manassas? He never get's his nickname, so no bde?

My point is, those men were with him before he marched to the field. The name is cosmetic. Further, the Federals get roughly 7,000 unique units... :neener: Let's let the CSA keep one of the few they do get.

Thanks for taking care of it so fast!

Is there something we'll need to download? Or will this just be on hold until the next release?

Kudos once again Gray for the unenviable job of "herding cats" as it were...
it's much appreciated!

Oh, I'm fine with having hte Stonewall Brigade -- I was only postulating a reason why it might have been removed.

After all, the name is only "flavor." As you say, the unit existed prior to the nickname, and the CSA already has a shortage of elite units relative to the USA.
