Hey,

Could someone just clarify how the transportation for trains, rails, transports works? I am talking specifically about the information shown to me in this screen highlighted by item #2

http://www.ageod.net/aacwwiki/Manual:The_map

For instance, in my current game I have Railroad (current/maximal) 158/227, what exactly does that mean? When I order men to move using rail, neither number changes.

For rivers, I have 59/59

and for naval, I jsut have 122

Below all of this it says my railroad supply is average and says I need 234 for full transportation but what exactly does full transportation allow me to do? Does it help my supply? Will buying more locamotives help?

And I figure the estimates on the left hand sides that indicate 0,1/3,2/3,3/3 are just a quick way to gauge my percentage of transport capacity? Thanks a lot.

That's telling you that you have 227 rail transport points total, and 158 remaining for use (the other 69 are being used to transport troops this turn).

what exactly does full transportation allow me to do?

1/3, 2/3, 3/3 transport capacity tells you which supply phases rail or river transport is available in (Full transport is the 3/3 level). If it's available in all thre phases then cities and depots further out can be supplied.

Will buying more locamotives help?

Definitely.

Can you explain this further to me, what do you mean "which supply phases rail or river transport is availible in"

Supply is pushed forwards up to 5 regions in each of the three phases. If you have rail capacity 2/3, then you will push supply forwards by rail only on the first two phases (this is still pretty good IMO). If you are down to 1/3, not to mention 0/3, then you are pretty much neck deep in poo-poo.
