v1.11a

You'll note Hood's Corps in region Stark, MS will not retreat due to lack of a suitable path. But according to the manual:

Finally, you cannot retreat from battle into completely hostile regions (i.e. less than 5% Military Control).

There are about 3 regions surrounding me which I have 20% military control. It does appear that my opponnent has single elements in each region, however. So, a single element qualifies as 100% military control as well? If so, the manual should be ammended.

EDIT And just to add a thought, if thats the case its just not right. How could a 1,000 man element block an entire region, which is hundreds of miles in some cases?

I don't have the time to look at the file right now but is there a chance that the enemy garrisons were able to convert the military control under 5% before your corps was able to retreat?

As for the edit question I would guess that it's not allowed in the game engine to allow your men to retreat into an enemy occupied county that has good military control anyway for some reason. It probably thinks that an army would surrender under those circumstances of being sorrounded but it can't calculate it by how many men you're sorrounded by, but only by the fact that you're sorrounded?

Don't listen to me, I'm rambling...

Hmm Im not sure. My opponent says they (militia) count as 5% military control. Even so that means the manuals wrong, because Id still have 15% military control in 3 regions. I have a feeling that if you have something like 80%or greater control AND an element of any type it qualifikes as 100% for retreat purposes. Hopefully someone can clarify.

I see what happened. On day 5 a force arrived in Stark that blocked my route of retreat, so it had nothing to do with the surrounding regions.

Good to hear something terribly wrong didn't happen...at least code-wise, feel sorry for the corps though. :(
