I am trying to build railroads, I know I can as the manual says I can but so far I have failed
Am I missing something? I know I must have an engineer. Do I also need supply wagons?

Hi
You are wrong. You cannot build railroads.
You can repair broken railroads. Is that what you mean?
The repair can be made by any infantry/cavalry/militia unit. Engineers do it better and faster.
You have to roll for success, so if you are unlucky it can take a couple or turns/tries.

i concur, if you are repairing a railroad that has been damaged and cut the line you can repair it with any infantry or cavalry unit, an engineer will speed up the process but 9/10 it will only take 1 turn to repair anyway

Thanks for your replies

I can repair railrods yes but in the manual I have got it also says I can build railroads. Is this a misprint?

I imagine that it was something that was planned when the manual was written, but that didn't make it into the final version of the game. Sorry for the confusion this has caused

I can't find the part about building railroads in the manual, can you give me a hint?

You can increase the rail
transport capacity though, using the economics screen. (Manual page 44/45, pdf manual rev. 20).
Cheers

Pg 31 of the original manual has this in the middle of the page:

It's also on Pg 32 of the Rev 20 manual. Just maybe that needs to be revised.

Thanks, this should be changed indeed.

Like caradoc I went thru endless attempts at trying to build railroads as per the manual.
Then I read somewhere (I can't remember where) that this was supposed to be coming in a future patch. It also stated you wouldn't be able to build railroads wherever you wanted but only in specific locaions (I imagine historical or potentially vaible).
Anyone know if this is all myth, or really coming in the future?

I have not had these results. In fact, it seems like it usually takes 3 or more turns for the railroad to be repaired. 2 questions:
Is there something I should be looking out for that might cause me to screw up this order somehow?
Does the size of the stack make a difference?

Makes me wonder: were any new rail lines actually put down during the ACW? By asking this question, I'm not implying that "if so, then AACW should have this feature." If it's not practical to code this feature, then that's definitive.

From what Ive read, the South was so hard-pressed for steel they'd tear up their rail llines in one region to fix another region.
