Can Leaders Die Of Attrition ?

I just played a PBEM game where I was CSA and Van Dorn commanded a force outside of Dallas. The force withered away in winter 61 (no depot) and Van Dorn disappeared.
My question is can leaders starve and die?

If so it would be a great help if there was a deceased and/or wounded list  . I spent forever trying to find Van Dorn thinking him wounded but to no avail. I thought he must have had a close encounter of the third kind until I guessed he must have starved.

Not necessary to search for the turns, just post the entire sub-folder, we'll find them. (The entire sub-folder can hold up to 24 of the past turns including the present turn). The file could become larger than what AGEod accepts for posting. In that case I use http://www.mediafire.com to upload large files to, then post the link to the upload itself.

If it's a PBEM, we probably have to see the host's files.

Yes that happened to me once. Had an entire calvary division under Kearny in Missouri that was out of supplies and the whole thing just disappeared - I didn't even get that "unit destroyed due to lack of spplies" message . He didn't show up on the roster. This was a few patches back, however.

Hello, Captain. Are you using the WotW expansion pack, by any chance? You might want to check out this thread:

Daxil- Its some time ago , so I can't remember if or what message I got. I seem to recall I may have got a message about Van Dorn's "force" but not him per se.

Gray Lensman- Did you get the stuff I tried to upload?
Anyway I will get onto the host and see if he will send you the relevant files. He is away this weekend at a Napoleonics reneactment in Spain so you'll have to wait till next week.

ok just back into the game and had Forrrest dissappear in Kentucky. Got notices on his individual units being attrited but nothing on the leader himself.

See my thread about a leader wish list. Knowing where all our leaders are by going to the leader roster would be sooo much easier. Even if the roster tells us they are in the grave, wounded and location whether living or dead.

After 3 years I was really hoping this one would have made it. :(
Simply it would be an exceptionally useful utility.

Non-divisional leaders won't starve. A leader of a division will starve and disappear with his division when it disappears. If you see a division starving, break it up so at least the general will survive. A generals death list would be a great addition though.

Gamey Solution

Thanks Pat, yes I knew that about non-divisonal commanders surviving. You have obviously learnt to play around this one ;)
However it really isn't a very realistic solution.
That leader roster same as the unit roster for missing elements would be soooo helpful.

In a recent game vs AI, I stupidly forgot to check the supply status of an exposed division until it was too late. All but two elements were destroyed due to lack of supply, but the leader survived, presumably because two elements did.

Of course but their is no listing if the leader is dead! It is much easier to search for a name than a missing name ;)

Dear Leader,

If, during the current conflict, you should, unfortunately, "bite the big one", would you be so kind as to have your heirs and concerned ones post a Death Notice to either the Charleston Mercury or NY Herald? t would be very considerate of you and yours.

If you lose a general in battle it usually tells you so. You just have to search really closely.

Of course it seems I lost Grant in a battle and it told me someone else had died, but not him.

I took that as a game malfunction and backed it up a turn. He didn’t die the second time. :neener:
