Supply question

Thu Feb 07, 2008 7:53 pm

Hi,

please take a look at the attached screenshot. I'm concerned about Halleck's corps in Scott. As you can see, its brigades are rather depleted, this has been the case for months now. My rail capacity is okay, my river capacity just dropped to 2/3 in this turn, before it was always at 3/3. All in all, I do have enough replacements as well, even though I sometimes take a beating somewhere. But even then some of the replacements should arrive at Halleck's corps. There never ever has been an enemy fleet at this place, at least not between Scott and Alexander to the north. Am I'm missing something here? Would more supply trains help?

They're in a level 1 town with no depot.
If advanced attrition is on, you won't replace any missing elements unless at a depot.
Level 1 town without depot refills elements slowly.
You can be in excellent supply, but not refill/replace troops.

River transport may be down due to other demands or transport, but again it's only going to feed supply.

Hi,
Scott, Mo. doesnt have a harbour and is a lvl1 town so reinforcements wont flow there. You need to be in a supplied lvl2+ town or in a region where there is a deport, fort or harbour. Supply wagons dont help with reinforcements. You should move them to Cairo next door, assuming its depot is still there.

So while Halleck is in supply generally (there is even a railroad crossing the river, or is that a graphical glitch?) he doesn't get any replacements because of his location "somewhere in the wilderness"? So generally this would affect McLellan in Hixmen as well (I don't know the size of the city over there at the moment), right? Mmh, I will have to plan my campaigning from (bigger) town to town then (and build some depots), especially in the west.

You are correct. Halleck will be in supply, but replacements to a level 1 city will be very slow. Move Halleck to Cairo and he will soon be back up to strength.

Depots need to be no more than 5 provinces apart to be effective. Using navigable rivers eliminates the 5 province limit. In the West, the place to build your depot is Bowling Green. Supplies will flow through Louisville to there and then on to Nashville, once you captured it.
