Foreign Intervention

I have a question about foreign intervention and the French. Do they ever provide any more forces besides Fleet assets and the Mexico Invasion?

CSA will receive a regular influx of money and war supplies... but no more troops or fleets (the French army - a small professional force - at the time was already stretched thin with the Mexican intervention)

just wondering, how frequently do foreign interventions occur? and what's the best way to improve the chances of an intervention? just winning battles?


so in the manual it says that you can bid vp's? what does that mean?

If you want foreign intervention to occur your best bet is to lower the requirment for it in the options to 75 points insted of 100...and then keep the CSA ahead in National Moral and Victory Points since that will slightly increase the Foreing Intervention number each turn...Although I don´t know the exact formula/chances of it happening it does happen...Then you have the political options that have a chance to rise or lower FI numbers, and with a little (or maybe a lot of) luck you can have them in the war by 63 or even earlier.

The good thing about foreign intervention is that it doesn´t automatically win the war for the CSA but it opens up a lo of strategical option and thus makes the game more fun...I only wish there was a way to force the CSA AI to use the political options and go for it...I´ve never had the chances to play the Union and suddenly have to fight the UK and France....

I would also love to see an alternative scenario with France and the UK in the war from the start or close to it...maybe early 62...and maybe the ability to put CSA corps under foreign command and foreign corps under CSA Armies

As far as getting FI up, just keep VP and NM higher than the Union and it will climb. The hard part is the Embargo setting, sometimes it helps sometimes it hurts. I have had the English in New York by Dec 61 with the Intervention setting set to Easy. During that game both my embargoes netted 20+ points for me and the Union lost points twice.
