I am finding out that even after going through and reading some AARs, the Wiki... rereading the manual etc.... the best and only way you really learn the game etc... is trial by fire. I have started as the CSA during the July 1861 campaign, and so far I have setup a defensive reactive posture and I am picking back up where I left off and learning as I go....

I have some thought as do what I want to do.... Longstreet I am sure is loving it. On all fronts I am positioned in an defensive posture, all the while sending raiding parties to the north. I am trying to react to the North's moves, hoping for a window of opportunity. One area I am having trouble with is the balance of "Do I need more units, or do I spend them on replacements etc...." and that can only really come via trail by error I am guessing.

Looks in wallet it appears I am going to have to shell out for Napoleon's Campaign, well Merry Christmas to ALL with a new game and a great patch, it's good being us....

When you get into PBEM you have really no idea what kind of forces are behind the fog of war and if your previous month choices were too conservative or too aggressive.

It's but one of the beautiful achievements of this game

I am playing my first couple PBEM games right now and let me tell you, it is a completely different experience than against the AI. The human player is much more tactical and do things different...one is aggressive and bringing the fight to me immediately (I am the USA) and the other isn't nearly as much.

The varied play in PBEM games comes from the other person's preference of play and it will make the game playable over and over again long after you tire of the AI.

I still haven't read the manual, I just jumped in and learned on my own (still learning). Also I've learned a great deal from the other players/forum.
