Capture or rifles

What effect does the capture of rifles on the battlefield have? Does this add to your ammo stockpiles? War supplies perhaps?

This may be a simple question, but it's been bugging me for a while. I couldn't find anything about this in the forums, the manual, or the wiki.

if i am not totally wrong 1000 rifles is 1 warsupply for your stock.

the battle result screen shows that too.
