Scripted History of Entire Civil War

Wed Aug 29, 2007 4:29 pm

I'd like to see a mod displaying the real civil war history through this game. It would be invaluable then as a learning and history tool. The AI could move for both the USA and CSA.

As a game I've been playing it PBEM with another player here but fail to understand the interrelation of all the actions and data. Its simply too complex for me as a game.

However, as a history display, this game could be really great and very valuable.

I found the game to be daunting at first, and still have to fight the urge to "rush" through a turn...very much so when I'm tired!

I've yet to go PBEM, and I may never do so, but I found that sticking with it after a few false starts led to the various systems "clicking" after awhile.

I think that having a good understanding of the events of the Civil War goes a long way toward making the game understandable, although it would be interesting to see the strategies pursued by players who were completely unaware of the historical events.

While playing out the whole war, scripted to resemble the actual events as closely as possible, would be a huge task, perhaps it would be interesting to see if it's possible to recreate a single campaign or even a battle. Can AACW be set up so that forces engaged at, for example, Fredricksburg, get results that almost exactly match the actual battle results?

You have to try PBEM! Awesome experience.
