How to backup a file...

I appologize for the stupid question but I want to try the leader mod the guys seem to be doing a great job on and it requires backing up some files. I realised that I don't know how to backup files. If someone has a minute could you please give me a quick tutorial on this. Thanks and again, sorry.

Easiest (and lazyest) way is you copy / paste your whole game directory in another part of your HD (if you have enough space)
