Tutorial question

Fri Jul 27, 2007 1:53 pm

So as I am playing the tutorial, I notice that when attacking the Reb force of AS Johnson with The Army of Tennessee, that Sherman and McClernand's corps preceed Grant's unit into the region and engage the Confederates before Grant's unit (with a beaucoup of artillery) meets up.

This is with and without the Leader Modification mod that has been offered up. I've included a JPEG to illustrate - this is after the battle, which was pretty even up as regards casualties.

And I also notice that Sherman always arrives a day earlier than McClernand and Grant whenever they are traipsing about in Syncronized Movement. What is with that?

Are they all originating in the same region? I think synchronized movement only works when all the corps start and end in the same regions.

It could either be that they come from different provinces...

Or that Sherman has a speed bonus (trait)

Or McClernand has a speed penalty (trait)

Army HQs tend to move slightly slower than corps (usually a day) so they don't end up being the first ones there (Army HQs don't take part in combat as much as corps, a design, plus you don't want your army to end up there first and savaged before your combat corps arrive).

Sometimes there are delays, and units get stuck for a day.

Posibly strategy rating has some influence on movement?

There is a lot to the game that is 'hidden' from the player's point of view, but things like rivers, random delays, etc., can slow down one force and break coordination. Basically, it means that there is nothing perfect in this world they created, that syncronizing your force may be almost impossible to do (as in reality).

They've all originated from the same province, so that isn't the case.

I was thinking a speed variable, but I can't find it. I certainly can understand the HQ unit being last to commit.

Makes me wonder if they played the tutorial as written? I've done it several times with the same result. I don't mean that in a sarcastic manner. I just don't get why it's happening. It's something I'd like to know mainly because I don't want to expect one thing and routinely receive another result. :p leure:

OK, I know that is somewhat ridiculous - to expect uniform behavior in each instance. Just wanna know what the SoP is for this.
