Gulf of Campeche inaccessible by sea?

Sun Jun 12, 2011 3:10 pm

Is this a known bug or by design?

I have never had it come up before because I never had foreign intervention but I tried to move ships there and they just won't go.

I have not yet tried to reach it overland. I hope that works.

Ol' Choctaw, note that it is shallow and not all ships can navigate through there. I just try it with a USA transport and it works fine. ;)

Then I will try transports.

Still seems odd. I thought Veracruz was a major port. Not deep enough for warships??

It seems that it is not possible. I have tried again and I can't send there frigates, steam frigates or armored frigates. I've only been able to send there transports, brigs and monitors. :)

Edit: I play with v1.15 patch, but if I remember correctly in 1.16 Release Candidate 2 patch it was fixed.

That makes you wonder how it was ever blockaded doesn’t it. That it was blockaded twice and is still a major port raises a few questions.
:neener:

I will have to try gunboats, just to see. :D

It may be a while before I get to it. But yes I will tell you, unless you beat me to it.

Also of interest on the matter; it would seem that the city is home to the Mexican Naval Academy.

The US Home Squadron blockaded the port in the Mexican American War and intervened there in 1860 during the Reform War, again with the Home Squadron.

I guess the tide was out when I tried to go there... for 4 years.

As I said above, this 'bug?' was fixed in 1.16 Release Candidate 2 patch and currently you can send there all types of ships (including heavy warships)... In the case that you are playing with this patch or above. ;)

Good luck in your game!
