Mac Version has been updated

Fri May 06, 2011 1:05 pm

Just fyi for anyone interested in Mac version:

Yesterday I opened my MAc version of ACCW and it automatically downloaded and updated to 1.01 - fixed are the date bug, the formatting issue with some fields and several other fixes I didn't notice on the update screen before I replied yes- I haven't been able to find any kind of read.me for the update list.

I am playing it now and all looks fine.

Dates still wrong

Tue May 10, 2011 3:17 am

I've also updated my Mac version to 1.01. The dates are much closer, but still wrong.

Open the 1861 July, 1862, or 1863 scenarios on both a PC and Mac. The starting dates are different by one turn. Also in the 1861 July scenario there is no access to the F2 reinforcements screen (at least in the first turn), which makes raising an army to crush the insurrectionists somewhat difficult.

I've submitted a ticket, hope to have a fix soon. Still a great game!

For the 1861 campaign, you do have access to F2 screen, this is just that the screen is empty of unit... This is normal, your force pool will fill in with units to recruit progressively. Edit your ticket if possible or you'll confuse the Mac developer of VP.

July Start

Tue May 10, 2011 11:06 pm

A quick question for you guys - when is the 1861 July scenario supposed to start? On the PC version it starts "Early July". On the Mac version 1.01 it starts "Late July".

I bought the game for the PC to run under boot camp several years ago. I bought the game again a few weeks ago for the Mac. I've done a few PC vs. Mac runs to test version 1.01 and am willing to do more testing to get the Mac version up to snuff.

Is there a text file somewhere that controls the scenario start date? Thanks.

Corrections to my earlier posts

Wed May 11, 2011 4:42 am

So one of my issues with the Mac version has been resolved: I updated my PC version to 1.15 (from what turned out to have been 1.07h, I had recently reinstalled everything) and now the PC and Mac start dates match.

But my second issue remains: the F2 Reinforcements screen shows as a solid piece of wood on the first turn (not with the empty cubbyholes, but as solid wood). This occurs on the Mac v1.01 but not PC v1.15. Fortunately the problem goes away after the first turn, but not being able to raise troops the first turn is somewhat of a disadvantage. But maybe I can roleplay it - Lincoln is ill or having an affair or something.

I've updated my ticket to reflect that I was wrong and the dates are correct, but the reinforcements screen problem is still there. The problem appears in all five scenarios I ran (1861 April, 1861 July, 1862, 1863, and 1864).

The responses to my tickets have been very quick (v1.01 was out in about a week) and professional. Thanks to all involved.

The Union must be preserved.

Thanks

Thanks for your help. It looks like Mac version 1.01 matches PC 1.15 except for the solid wood reinforcement screen. So for now I'll plow ahead with my July 1861 campaign game and just skip reinforcements on the first turn (Late July). What's two weeks in the grand scheme of things?

The replies from the porting house to my error tickets have been very professional, so I'm hoping they will fix the first turn reinforcement problem and anything else that pops up.

But for now, there's a game to play!

Mac version 1.0.2

Sun Jun 12, 2011 8:33 pm

Apparently there's a new Macintosh version 1.0.2 out. I've downloaded it (via Bodega) but haven't seen any change notes, nor tried it out yet.

Back to the war. In my latest game as USA in one of the early turns I decided to mobilize a bunch of militia in Missouri, Kentucky, and Maryland, to slow down any early game quick thrust by the rebs. So I authorized the creation of 13 militia units in Kentucky, which had just joined the Union.

Well, the USA had only one militia recruiting town available in KY (I think Paducah), so that's where the muster took place. That same turn, CSA takes Paducah. All 13 units destroyed.

Ouch.

Is it possible to play a pbem game where one player uses the PC version and the other runs it on a Mac? Are the turn and order files compatible?
