Walker's Greyhounds were never part of the Department of Texas. See here for specific information on this division.

Incidentally, Barksdale, your link above seems to be broken... No prob for me, I've been staring at the Cornell university site for over 2 weeks now with the side project, I'm doing, but you might want to check it and repost for others that may want to eyeball your references. :)

Can you guys find the Union numbers?

Link is fixed! Thanks Gray! It really is some piece of work having all that information online, even if it is in a poor format.

I am slowly working on a count of Federal divisions too

Count them throughout the entire war not in any given period. I just used early 1863 for a quick count so I wouldn't have to worry much about changes in command or consolidated divisions. Eventually I'll go through and the changes in leaders\consolidations for rebels.

The Union army has much better records. I'm doing those now...should be done a rough count in a few hours.

I'll PM you some sources you can help me with you'd like :coeurs:

Federal Divisions

Fri Jun 19, 2009 2:04 am

This information is a summary from the Civil War Archives as well as the better known divisions from Foote's Narrative

I am tallying a total of 82 divisions that served over various dates. This does not include reorganized, consolidated or transfered, I've totally discounted any from the 16th corps due to them enver really being together so they are already counted in other corps.

Crute's 'Units of the Confederate States Army' is no use in any discussion about Divisions.

A more usefull source could well be Stewart Sifakis'
'Compendium of the Confederate Armies' series.

Could be...I counted the corps starting divisions and everytime the source said a new diviision was formed. They stated when one divisions units were broken up and transferred to new ones so they were not counted again. I may still have some errors, however.
