Sorry for the offtopic, but GShock, why have you a red square in your reputation? I thought this was related with the number of post here but you are very active and you have a lot of them, so what is it?

[color="Blue"]This green and red squares reflect "reputation".
Green reputation is good.
Red reputation is bad.
When someone reads one of your post, he can, if he wishes so, show his approval/disaproval by changing your reputation.
This is done by clicking on the little white balance, lower left corner of each post.
Everyone is not equal:
- Young members votes bring less reputation than forum veterans votes.
- A member with a good reputation will also bring/take more reputation with his vote.
- When a member of the AGEod team votes, it brings a LOT of reputation
So this is what means reputation: If you read a post written by someone with a lot of green squares, you can almost take his advice for granted. If you are offended by a post from a guy with a lot of red squares, just take it easy because his opinion does not count much for the community.
Reputation has nothing to do with moderation. If you miss respect to someone in this forum, you'll be warned and receive a personnal message from me or Rafiki. Usually, warned members understand and change their behaviour accordingly (only three persons have been banned so far).
GShock enjoys a lively personnality, with some strong opinions about AI for example. Obviously, some people do not like some of his opinions and this is why he is in the red zone. Personnaly, I think GShock is a friendly guy, very helpful to new AGEod players, so what he thinks is his right as long as there is mutual respect.
Cheers,
Korrigan

Oh, thanks for the explanation, Korrigan
I understand now why there are some people here with a lot of posts but still red squared. So the grade, sergeant, captain,.... is what is related with the number.
In other fora where I have been or that i still visit this is not implemented. Of course this is double edged, for example GShock or any other could think that his comments are not welcome and stop posting,... And this is not a critic, just a little comment.
Regards and sorry again for the off topic.
Edit: better here thanks

Indeed, this is something that must be taken into account, and I hope such things don't happen. Even after the time I've been involved as moderator/administrator around here, I'm still not entirely sure about what I think of the reputation system and how I think it would/should work best.

Actually, the way the reputation system is implemented here appears not that useful to me, because it does not provide concrete feedback. You only get to know "by accident" whether your reputation has changed, and if so, you have to guess which of your posts was "rewarded" with a reputation.
There are hacks for vBulletin that
(1) List your reputations in the user center, each with a link to the post that was evaluated and the comment that was included in the reputation. This provides information which of your post was the reason for the change of your reputation and therefore what the reputing person thinks of this specific post.
(2) The name of the person that gave the reputation, which prevents abuse (but, of course, opens opportunities for other kinds of abuse...).
This information provided, the reputation system can provide informative feedback and therefore might change one's behavior.

Another dirty little secret is that reputation can be arbitrarily set via site admin powers. Thus, AGEOD staff IDs seem to be miracuously born with stellar reputations. I think the ATHENA ID has one of the most humongous reputations. This is Pocus' alter ego when he wants to cruise the forums as sentient AI after just finishing watching 2001 Space Odessy!

Here is the range of reputations user can have. This reminds of EU2 and badboy scores!

It was my impression that GShock really ticked off one or two people in particular a couple months back, and has been taking reputation hits pretty much at random (but probably most of them from a single source) ever since. Fortunately, this is a community, and people know each other, so these things tend to get corrected ...
If saying that in public hurts my "cootie score", I'm ok with it. If calling it a cootie score hurts my cootie score, I'm ok with that too.

Actually Athena login primary role is to allow me to browse all forums with admin privileges, without losing the list of unread posts, when I login as Pocus. I hate when I can't ask for such list.

This sounds like a good one and will be taken into consideration once some other forum matters have been resolved (sounds ominous? it isn't

)
In the meantime, whenever I see large negative shifts in reputation, I do a review of the reputation logs to see what it's about and address it if necessary (as some people can attest to...

)
One thing I'd like people to take to heart, is that if you make use of the possibility of criticizing others (which giving a disapproval is, in essence), it carries with it the duty of making sure that you commend people when they deserve it too
IMO, the reputation system as it is around here today, though imperfect, works fairly well

btw, I would like to be able to make a search on 'all posts done since 24h', without entering anything. As of now, you can't, you either have to enter a word or an user.

Once all new post are marked as read, the "New Posts" link offers the possibility to search for all posts since 24h.

Tomorrow there's a huge meeting in Rome boosted by an ex prosecutor who's leading a mass of people against the head of Mafia, and currently prime Minister, Silvio Berlusconi about his old habit: making laws to be declared innocent at criminal trials.
If i can tolerate this without turning myself into a shaib, then i can tolerate a few bad hits on my reputation counter.
No, seriously, being blunt is hard to tolerate i know...but that's how i am. I am partly sorry for being a pain.
But only partly.

Well, you can...
"Quick Links" => "Today's Posts" => VoilĂ !
(where "today" in fact means "last 24 hours")

Nay, I threaten no-one. The ridiculous wig and beard are on by your choice, and by your choice shall they remain so or not; it do'st not partake in thy cootiness

Just because I elsewhere on these forums recently suggested banning Pocus and Korrigan, I suddenly get a bad rap as powerhungry and megalomaniac and need to be "watched"? *sheesh*

At si-games we have vBulletin v. 3.6.8 and that marks only those thread as read that you really viewed. If you haven't read a post, it stays as marked as unread until forever (if you do not press on "mark all as read").
With this improvement, you don't have to read all new posts every time you hit the forum, because the system does not clear the "New Posts-memory" after your visit, like it is done here at ageods.

A silly question.
Can I bring reputation to myself
