Modding Pax Romana

Sun Feb 08, 2015 5:01 pm

Hi there, i've recently acquired a copy of this wonderful, as unlucky, game;although I had some problems with the patches, I wanted to start modding the game's graphics just for beginning.

My questiona are: can I use some asset from AJE to mod the graphics of Pax Romana?

And, do you know some tools i can use to mod it?

Best regards to all of you!

You can probably take what you want to mod, as long as it remains a mod. Now, because of the grand old age of Pax Romana, I know the graphics are using a totally different technique (TGA vs PNG) and unless you have some graphical skills with those art software, it will be hard.

May I enquire where you purchased the game?

Thanks, it will remains a mod of course. I'm a graphic designer so no problem for graphical skills (i hope :D ), these are some brief examples/prototype:

Here i managed to change some interfaces plus the cities graphics on the campaign map (taken from AJE :D )

Possible loading screen.

The fonts are giving me some problem on editing, my intentions were to change them entirely, and yet have to find the right colours... we shall see.

I've purchased it on Ebay (less than 5 dollars). I wanted to take a digital copy but was unable to find in any digital store.

At the moment i'm editing without the 1.02 patch, because it somehow prevent me from start the game with cd, however the biggest problem for me are the editing of the campaign map and the position of the writing, buttons etc, cause i cannot figure out how to find these settings.

Any advice?

Many thanks Phil! :D I've already placed the order, let's see if this resolve some problems of gameplay...

I hope I do not torment you but I have some questions :D :

I've seen this screen in the store:

Are these features in the game or are they simple screen of an alpha version?

And last but not least, what about modding the position/dimensions of the windows/interface object and the campaign map?
Are they "hard-coded"? How much can I edit them?

For the second screenshot. Set Economic Mode, Right Clic on the region, then select Administrative mode then the budget.

Thanks Bohémond, i've found it now, although the city view is a bit different from the screen.

It seems that the digital version is much easier to edit. These are my first attempts to make a relief map:

(in this I have already removed the symbols of the terrain)

Have yet to understand well how to add/edit regions and sea zones...

How do you mean by editing regions and sea zones ?

Change the borders, texture, position; create new regions, provinces and sea zones...

For example I would like to add region and sea zone in the area of cymbrica, scandinavia, and upper caledonia. Or add the Rhine and the Danube as navigable rivers (as they are in AJE).

I thought that I would find a bmp file with the coloured regions to edit, (like in paradox grand strategy games), but I found only a few files in greyscale with the borders and names of the regions...

I do not think you can do add new regions (hard coded .bin file).

But you can edit several things. Do you try using the scenario editor ?
