I bet Philippe Thibaut can reach even or higher sums!

I am fascinated by these (1) (2) alternative forms of funding. The best thing is they are NOT incompatible with the bigger studios either, they can support current projects.

I bet you can simply try it for a new (or vastly improved) AGEOD engine! People will flock to see the best war simulation engine get some serious muscle... :w00t:

Yes, I know about that. I would be careful about this in France, as it is against some specific laws we have and prohibited...that's why we have not (yet) seen it as much as in the rest of the world. But there were some inroads recently (in the music producing filed) that will open up gaps in the legislation.

Wow, thanks for answering personally, Mr. Thibaut! I hope it becomes soon a reality cause it would be a shame if we Europeans couldn't find alternative ways to sponsor our projects, while Americans can. :(

I wasn't asking for a full-blown game with a huge budget as those mentioned in the article. Something simple, just to help you recruit 1-2 extra part-time developers to perfect the AGE engine. Perhaps there are exceptions (fiscal as well) if the budget is limited to circa €10-20000. I want to believe if the basis is right (game engine) then developing an actual project could be a much easier job, given the many way the community could testbed for historical accuracy and bugs.

The main issue is not really the money, although it does count...it's about time and personal availability. Both Pocus and myself are fully commited and duly occupied with the current NCP2 project and it leaves us little free personal time to advance on aGe, but we do have some spare nights and week-ends once in a while :D

Im sure a lot of us would make small inversions in depeloping of a game like the ones we prefer. But in the link we read that it get in 8 hours a big sume of money, thats a lot of people behind that, thousands. Philippe, im sure you have an estimate number of pottencial buyers of your products but are we that quantity? i have the impression, at least here in Spain that we are only a few.

Well, the number of active people on a forum has never been exactly the number of potential customers or even exact clients, as otherwise there would be over 100,000 members here ;)

In fact, the trick is indeed to know how many are REALLY interested....and second how many could afford an investment. IIRC we did a survey some months ago about who could potentially invest in a project, and how much...the result was not very promising, not allowing us a living for more than a month or so (ok, we are not that "cheap" :mdr :) ....

Any developer in Delphi is also always welcome to show up, the resource is rare it seems (because we need dual classed people (RPG talk!), Player/Delphi)

hum...

i managed to bring some colleagues that far to play AGEODs games during work as multi-player within the company, but i fear if i would ask them to leave the job to support you, i would have a typical life-of-Brian-and-STONES situation...

and IBM tends to use big stones... :feu:

This is true. However, if you try to ride the current wave, you might find yourselves in a very good situation, simply by harnessing the free publicity for your future projects and games. Even if a kickstarter approach fails to reach its monetary goal, it will definitely be seen by many potential "gaming investors" in the field. Of course most of them who intend already know you, but adding some more never hurts.

I think it deserves a try! :)

Delphi is using Pascal (object oriented Pascal but unless you are very old, you should have learned programming the OO way). If you know Pascal, you know Delphi and can program in AGE, if you are also a player (and you are).
The two Stéphane who are doing project AJE were also slowed down because there was an acute lack of resource in Pascal programming, even if AGE was 95% fits for their subject and game, there was always a need for some tweaks. If a Pascal developer was part of the team, I guess they would have finished the project much sooner.

I thought you were using Python or C++.

yeah im veeeery old :mdr: When i learned Pascal OO was still new. I was studing in that times, the 90's. Im sure i can remember pascal easily but i cant consider myself a Pascal developer if i was be sure you will have a new AGE developer. ;)

Not that the Tiobe Index means anything, but to my surprise as well, Delphi is doing rather well. 13th most popular on the Web.

The language is very readable and well designed, its chief architect, Anders Hejlsberg, was hired by MS to develop C#
I do not know anyone who regrets having the code in Delphi. Alas the wanderings of Borland and the development of MS. NET have reduced its use

That makes me very old - I learned Pascal before the invention of Object Pascal.
It is a long time since I did any Delphi, and the version of Delphi I have is really old, but I may be able to do something.

We can discuss that then :)
