To tell the truth this section disturbed me more than a little when it appeared. If I'm totally honest its the reason why I made sure that my image hosting service deleted any links to this forum. It is very very draconian to think that anything that is posted on these boards 'automatically' become the 'exclusive intellectual property of AGEOD' and cannot be reprinted, published or reproduced anywhere else by the author without the expressed permission of the Webmaster or AGEOD

Just my take and if its usual policy for other websites then my......sincerest apologies to one and all but it will make me wary of posting on AGEOD forums......perhaps I should be as wary on others?

It is like that in every OFFICIAL forum... if you haven't noticed it before, it is because you haven't read the rules. ;)

Just visit the LucasArts forum, or the Paradox forum or any other games official forum... I am NOT talking about "community forums" managed by community members, I am talking about OFFICIAL forums. ;)

This is to PROTECT AGEOD from the usual banned member that ask for all his content to be removed ... or similar cases like that.
Also, imagine this situation.... if you post in here something, and then a moderator edits your post (because of breaking x rule) someone crazy enough may try to sue AGEOD becuase they are editing "MY" post. :bonk:
You may think that is just a stupid example... but beleive me, in big communities that happens more than you can think of  ... and this rule, clearly protects AGEOD in that case. The moderator has the power to edit your post because its content its property of AGEOD. ;)

Really, people tend to not see the problem of Copyright... but it is a HUGE problem of its own.
I will give you another simple example (I love examples!! because I think are much better to understand ;) )... recently I have been contacted by the Premier League Board to see if I was the owner of some logos of some Premiership teams that I had in my photobucket account. They politely told me that if I didn't answered in less than a week with a positive answer, they will remove my images from the server.
Obviously, I didn't bought the logo of Manchester United or Chelsea.... neither I had the rights granted by the Premiership to show them in my AAR of Football Manager...
So, they quickly erased all the images of logos from my account.

Another example, try to upload a goal in the Premiership to youtube... or the last F1 Grand Prix race... you will not be able to do so. It will be removed in minutes. ;)

Everything that you post , must be public or you must be the owner of the rights... if not, you are getting yourself (and the forum owner) in troubles.
That's why, Copyrights is VERY important in an official company forum. ;)

So, that's why AGEOD NEEDS to "own" what you post... so, in case you don't comply with the rules, it can be quickly erased without any legal problem. ;)

Anyway, the general forum is not the place to discuss the forum rules... if you have any question about them, I think you better contact the administrators in private, not in public. ;)

A question on forum rules

The updated forum rules say:

By posting material (such as text, graphics and database files) to these forums, you irrevocably grant AGEOD full use of the materials in any and all ways that AGEOD deems suitable.

This is pretty standard stuff on any and all forums I follow. However, there is one thing missing from the above, ie how quotes and material only linked to are handled for the "full use" -clause.

As AGEOD forums allow attachments in posts, I understand that any posts and/or attachments fall under this rule. However, what about material on other sites, ie to which only a link or quote is provided? Say for example, linking or quoting a scientific text (which the poster has copyright on or is allowed to use that material)?

For example, say I quoted myself on something I'd written in my copyrighted blog (if I had a blog) and that would be the greatest master piece of geniousness since Da Vinci painted Mona Lisa, would that text now also fall under the "full use" -clause mentioned in the forum rules? What about if I just gave a link to the blog, but didn't actually quote or write anything on these forums?

Likewise scenarios, AAR's, mods and whatnots posted (as attachments) on these forums obviously fall under the "full use" clause, but what about material only given a link for?

In that case, AGEOD gets to use the link, but not material at the end of the link. The contents of your copyrighted blog have not been posted to these forums, and you do not grant AGEOD use of the material therein by simply linking to it.

Interesting........
I have one question about this.

Don't take this the wrong way but use it as an example. (paranoia has not set in yet)

Does AGEOD have the right to alter or change posted material without the posters knowledge?
ie: If I post a scenario, can AGEOD alter this scenario and repost it without having to inform me?
