Which wargame or strategy game would you like that AGEod develops in the middle term

Wed May 13, 2009 10:48 am

Hi. Just curiosity :) Multiple options allowed

Wondering which are the preferences here. NCP2 included even though it is already more or less confirmed :neener:

Yes, you can vote for everything, but I suppose that it is better to choose what you want more :neener:

Right now people would prefer NCP or AACW v2, v3 and more than other less paced grounds :D

Russian Civil War

My "other" vote is for a game (or scenario) covering the Russian Civil War. (scenario could be for Vainglory of Nations or a hypothetical Athena-powered WWI game)

The Second Punic War and The Thirty Years War absolutely scream to be developed. It would be a crime against humanity for AGEOD to pass these two subjects over. Just my calm, well-reasoned, and humble opinion of course. :hat: The War of the Spanish Succession and The Great Northern War also deserve the AGEOD treatment. I implore AGEOD to stay well clear of anything post 1870 or during the Medieval era. Any discussion along those lines is just kooky talk.

Well, I am sure all of us have our respective preferences. But, WW2 was, is and will be the biggest wargame market out there (but no, I didn't voted for any WW2 if that's what you thought ;) ).
So, sooner or later, AGEOD will have to cover that conflict in some way... or do you want to see the Phils looking for a job? ;) :D

I would love to see someone do a new version of Space 1889. Loved that game back in the day.

I will accept the fact that a WWII game is inevitable at some point in the future and of couse I will almost be compelled to buy it. :grr: I just think warfare was much more interesting before automatic weapons.

I think regardless of the period one is interested in a good game needs attacking potential for both sides (maybe at different times), and some periods of fluid movement for both sides. To be able to make parachute drops (if in the right period obviously), amphibious invasions and attacks to interdict supply routes. Having large armies at each others throats early in a scenario with little room to maneuver is never much fun.

AACW and WiA have this. So I would like to see any game that can do similar.
With Elves and Sci-Fi there is a huge opportunity to make a wargame as fluid as you like. Little research needed and if given some thought you can come up with a believable world and some very interesting games and tactical angles. Avalon Hill's Starship Troopers with the underground Arachnids and their tunnels, Skinnies, mobile infantry with talking nuke grenades, combat engineers, dogs and the Psych-Corps (to name but a few of the units) is a good example. What's not to like?

But I am normally a historical guy so I would most like to see the Punic Wars.
It would be nice to see what AGEOD could do with a flight of whimsy though and I would be very happy to help out with scenarios.

Cheers, Chris

(I also took the liberty of renaming "Pocus engine" into "AGE engine", since that's the correct name for it ;) )

"WW2 Europe" = Entire Europe; France, Italy, Russia, UK, Scandinavia, Balkans, North Africa, etc, etc. I.e. WIF's European map

"WW2 West" = France, Benelux, possible UK, Spain and/or Switzerland too

(That's my take on it, at least)

I think that Pocus was talking about a complete european scenario, as opposing to a pacific theater. East is russian front and west France, England,... Well it is what I meant. In Europe perhaps you can include North Africa

So a tree could be something like this

WW2 Global

1WW2 Europe

1aWW2 West
1bWW2 East
1cWW2 Mediterranean and North Africa

2WW2 Pacific

Edit: oops, Rafiki was faster ;)

Well my tuppence worth and I think I come from it at a slightly different angle to most. Firstly AGEOD has to be profitable and self sustaining. Now I may be incorrect, I often am, but in that case the key market is the North American followed by Europe.

Thus I think it would be wise, if not inevitable for AGEOD to produce an ACCW2. After all with Gray, Clovis and others ongoing contributions much of the groundwork for an version 2 is already well prepared and we all know the game engine works fine with it.

Then, without doubt, NCP requires a rework. I fully understand the economic reasons for the release of NCP as is but for it really to succeed in this 'niche' market it desperately needs a 'grand campaign' option. I'd be surprised if sales had not suffered considerably because of this omission.

Finally as has already been said. If you want the largest sales hit then it has to be a WWII game.

So if I had to make a living from designing computer wargames it would be AACW2 and NCP2 then a WWII game. Then again I have no need to make a living from producing computer wargames so what the heck do I know

The Crimean War?

Wed May 13, 2009 11:45 pm

Gray_Lensman wrote:NCP2 should be first... Why? Because NCP 1 was short changed without a campaign game and production system... It would be rather quick to churn out an NCP2 with those features added to it along with VgN enhancements. Bingo, you have another seller on the market in relatively short time. There's plenty of interest in North America for the Napoleonic era also.

AACW 2 will require a complete overhaul to make it a worthy successor to AACW 1, this would include a new map without the RRs drawn directly on the map, to allow for RR building in-game, a process that will undoubtedly take quite a bit more time.

What Gray said.

Plus, Grumpycrat has become interested in something obscure, lately, that he says was really historically important. The Crimean War, is that right...? He said it was kinda the "practice run" for the AACW, 'cause they used railroads and had industrialization and all that stuff. He also said that he doubted there would ever be a game on it, 'cause it's too obscure.

There was a whole lot more that he said about it, but I don't know what it was because I was ignoring him, just like I always do when he starts getting really boring and long-winded and making me sleepy.

I was going to comment something about this... but then I realized that I shouldn't be talking about unconfirmed features... :siffle: ;)
