In Praise of Rafiki

Its not my intention to embarass the man but I'm pretty sure I will.

Now to set the scene I only have one AGEod game and thats AACW because I only like full campaign games (AGEod for whatever reason were plain daft in releasing NCP without a full campaign mode) . In addition both my grandmother and my mother used to say 'boy you would try the patience of a saint'. To make matters worse I'm now long in the tooth and set in my ways but refusing to grow up.

So over half the time when I post on the AACW boards, which is quite often, I'm in grumpy old man mode. Then along comes Rafiki with a calming and encouraging word and I suddenly reflect and often realise how daft I've been (mind you there are very occasional times when I bite my tongue and mutter under my breath that he has'nt a clue) ;)

What I'm trying to get at though is that no matter how good the developers and programmers of the AGEod games undoubtedly are the success of these boards is in large part due to the role of the Administrator. Not only does he defuse possible flash points but he advises, offers sensible answers, encourages, cajouls and generally keeps the boards ticking over in a most professional manner. Indeed for the majority of the player base I'm sure he's the first and last point of call in respect of customer service....and his efforts are first class and do AGEod nowt but credit.

So here's to you Rafiki, long may you look after these boards. I'm sure we will cross swords many times in the future and often I'll be uppitty and harsh but good on ya son....AGEod would find it hard to replace you.

Heck am I getting that wishy washy in me old age. :coeurs:

Oh well if he can ban anyone he feels like that alters things entirely Arsan. I take it all back. Now't I detest more than power mad folks.... mini dictators and all that.

Thanks for the kind words; if I'm a "pretty face" for the team (and I mean that in the most non-physical sense possible, as anyone who has seen me in real life can attest), then it's because it's a great team to be a member of and it is also a great community that I am happy to be a part of :)

Now, since this thread is entirely off-topic for what these threads are about, I should just close it and ban the (other) posters here for reckless waste of precious bytes and bandwidth ;)

Sure, but we find it's much easier to just feed selected forumites to Great Old Ones instead :cthulhu:

Shut the thread down Rafiki. Although meant somewhat lightheartedly the original sentiment was heartfelt. Now it just seems the thread has been highjacked by 'the inner circle' if you get my drift. In a peculiar sort of way makes me sad I said anything :coeurs:

Arne!!

Rafiki has been my first point of customer service as well. Quite often, if I'm thinking of saying something daft, or that could be misinterpreted, or is just the slightest bit sarcastic, I'll run it by Rafiki first. It's the times I don't that can cause problems.

I've known Arne over a year now, and have enjoyed working with him immensely. He is positive, professional, and helpful; and knows how to unwind a little, too.

I don't think that you should feel sad about opening this thread, because I think that (1) the things you said are true and (2) Rafiki deserves to know how you/we acknowledge him and his efforts.

Thanks for speaking out what many people think here! :coeurs:

Don't be, I really appreciated the words and the sentiment behind them. Although I generally have a feel that things are working pretty well (unless the Phils have been hiding complaints from me for some reason ;) ), it's always nice to hear it too :)

I also have to be honest and say that I'm not really that comfortable (in an "aaaw gawsh"-kind of way) with being singled out from the team for praise like this, which may be why I semi-encouraged the derailment we were headed for back there.... It's the people of the community who make these forums what they are; I just view myself as the janitor who makes sure that people keep off the lawns :gardavou:

And to everyone: thanks for the kind words; you have most likely saved yourself from bans, devuring or both in the immediate future :D
