Forum for Vainglory of Nations?

Tue Jan 22, 2008 11:31 pm

I know it's still far from being finished but a forum would be nice to have. I am sure there are tons of good things to discuss before release.

So far, discussion about the game has been taking place in this thread:

http://www.ageod-forum.com/showthread.php?t=2566

which has so far been up to the task. Currently, there aren't plans for having a dedicated forum, seeing as VGN is still quite a way off. At some point, though, there will of course be :)

About that for that I'd say. There is much to discuss.

I merged the new thread you posted into this one since it's about the same. Also note that the "News from AGEOD"-forum is meant for just that; news *from* AGEOD :)

My answer to your question hasn't changed in the meantime

There is some bug in the forum system which is why it got double posted.

If the release is 2008/2009 then it isn't that far off. Paradox starts forums for games 2-3 years ahead of release. Like Matrixgames also does.

Nevertheless I think a game of this complexity deserves proper fact discussion. Ala Paradox games.

Up to you guys but if AGEOD means this to sell then planning ahead will only help.

The other forum is set up to be "moderated", i.e. not open for regular posting, so you won't see threads you start there immediately. As soon as I saw it, I approved it and moved it here :)

Indeed. As I said, at a point, there will be a separate forum for VGN. Currently, the need isn't there, especially as long as the discussions are limited to a single thread.

That said, you are more than welcome to discuss the game. Not having a separate forum should in no way be taken as a sign that we don't want people to talk about it :)

As long as it isn't viewed as spam I guess ;) .

I thought a thread for each major nation would be in order.

If you'd like to pitch in with the research and data-gathering, I'll quote Pocus when this was discussed in the main VGN-thread:
Pocus wrote:Write me a short resume to support@ageod.com, and what you like or want to do if you enter the testing team (testers can help in various ways). Also be sure to understand that testing is not simply to say hello and disappear one month later, it happens many time in fact :)

As I'm sure you realize, the beta team has other ways of discussing the game and coordinta8ng the research than the VGN-thread in this forum, and we are always on the look-out for dedicated betas to help the efforts in making VGN the best game it can be :)

If all ideas for and remarks about our games are welcome in the forum ("Help to improve..." threads), game design is however not something we discuss publicly:

First, because game designing is a profession, not a democratic process. AGEod game designers enjoy discussing with the community, but ultimately they are sole responsible for the design of the products AGEod is going to propose to our customers.

Second, because the PC Game industry is an industry, with a free market and competitors. AGEod policy is to keep everything secret till we reach the last four weeks of the BETA phase.

There rules apply to the public forums. However, discussion is open in the BETA teams. These teams work directly with game designers. They are having the kind of discussion you are looking for.

Currently, two BETA teams are open for recruitment:

- Birth of America 2, Wars in America
- Vainglory of Nations

If you wish to join one of them, please send us a short resumé and your motivations to support@ageod.com.
The work is hard, the atmosphere is fun, you get to know the AGEod better and you meet plenty of other knowledgable people.... but the work is hard.
Join us! :cwboy:

Best regards,

Korrigan

I am more thinking of the historical facts gathering process. Something AGEOD might need. Game design I leave up to AGEODs design team.

We had tons of facts discussions in the EU1/2 beta process long before release.
For us who love historical accuracy this is s big deal.

We could be interested by your participation then! Can you write me at support@ageod.com with a bit of details on your gaming interests?

Sounds good. I am actually heading for India in a few months as part of a new project, might be able to gather some info on site there.

Don't get me wrong. I understand the need for secrecy and orderly development and all that but I was more looking for a broader discussion about the Age of Imperialism/Pax Britannica period rather than what command buttons goes where etc.

Look at how lively the EU discussion boards are(were at least), this is a topic that interests many people.

No problems on that, we are in need of knowledged people wanting to dig in historical documents.
