Armageddon Empires

Sat Jul 28, 2007 9:36 am

Hello
This is a new game, a mix between board and card games, in a post-apoc sci fi setting a la Fallout, released 2 weeks ago by a indie dev that autopublish and sell also.
It's pretty good IMHO, there's a 20 (or maybe 30) turns demo available. Only drawback is that it's solo only.
Check at http://www.crypticcomet.com
We'll talk about it soon in Cyberstratege ;)

No one here to give a feedback ? I'm hooked to the game, and feel every hardcore strat gamer will too !
But it seems everyone here is sunbathing at seaside or swimming in a pool ! :siffle:

I downloaded the demo to see the beast. The game is attractive at first glance but I feel a little lost at start.

Questions/remaks :
Does a tutorial exist ?
Idem for a campaign ( in retail version maybe?) or linked scenarios.
Map are a bit too small, is it your impression also?
It misses some tooltips to better understand how game works.
Is the game rather different than Star Chamber ( about gameplay and game mechanics)?

Hello Oliv.. hey Adlertag ;)
About your q :
1/ Tutorial : not existing yet but the designer/programmer is planning to make one (non-interactive). For the moment you should (and maybe have) read the manual that has a "Getting started" section, and learn on the field !
2/ Campaigns : no, there isn't, and it's not planned.
3/ Maps : they're rather small but the game is designed for that, units don't move very fast, and it takes some time to cross/explore the map
4/ Tooltips : yes you don't get much info about what is possible or not before trying, the game is rather unforgiving indeed... But it comes fast after a couple games
5/ Similarities with StarChamber : the basics are resembling, as both are a mix of card and boardgame. But AE has no "collection" aspect and fewer cards (with a narrower choice of types/effects, more like wargames "units"), games are longer (2-3 hrs a game compared to 30-60 min for SC IIRC), so maybe AE has less "combos" or deck ideas. But AE combat is more detailed and involved, also it has some "indie" units/sites à la Dominions plus, you can create stuff.

Thanks, I'll investigate more, maybe when some more stuff will be released (I would like to see some kind of tutorial all the same).
