64bits system: make Ageod games Large Address Aware

Thu Sep 12, 2013 10:27 pm

Beware, this is only if you have a 64bits OS,
not your good old 32bits system with not more than 4Go RAM.

Maybe you have 8Go RAM on your pc (or even 16?).
Ageod games only use 2Go RAM! the rest should be for the swap..
Then, tell your games that they're no longer on a 32bits system!:
You can use Explorer Suite (however there are far more simple programs)
http://www.ntcore.com/exsuite.php
Install it
Right-click on a game .exe, or its shortcut.
Choose 'Open with CFF Explorer'
Click to the top-left on 'File Header'
Click to the bottom-right on 'Click here'
If not already ticked, click on 'App can handle >2gb address space'
Click OK button
Click to the top-left on the Save icon
Click Yes on Overwrite original file? window
You can quit the explorer

This tiny patch on the game exe does not harm it.
Your game should then run smoother, try to scroll the map.
I think Video RAM is now exchanging with usual RAM only
instead of with hard-drive swap often before... (I guess, I'm not an actual dev)

Interesting. I was using something different from the same author: http://www.ntcore.com/4gb_patch.php
Any idea what are the differences between those two programs i.e. they both do the same thing?

Yours is more simple,
it does the same tweak I told (I'm not absolutly sure, but 4Gb patch is a bad name I think, or it is aiming for 32bits OS?),
but it can only do that.
It should be better for those fearing a bad click.

The patched program is still a 32bit one, therefore 4GB RAM is the maximum it can use.

Has someone runs some comparison before/after for map scrolling for example?

The game launches faster (that's the more noticeable), and there is some more FPS when scrolling (same speed but smoother, pictures jump less). But ok that's not a big improvement.
My pc is Intel Core i3 3220, 8Go RAM, AMD Radeon HD 7770 1GB, Win8 64b.
