Pacific War

Thu Jul 18, 2013 10:38 pm

I thought it has been a while since I made a random post - came across this picture today and thought I would post it. Quite poignant - especially with the hot weather in the UK. I would love to see a decent game made of the Pacific War one day. War in the Pacific looks fantastic but would take me 10 years to play a single game. Solomon islands pic.

I was kind of hoping the next (and probably last) Company of Heroes would take place in the Pacific. East Front was a nice choice too, but there aren't enough Pacific War games out there. There's WITP, which is still a very pricy title. There's also a few RTS and FPS titles which feature the east Asian front, but not too many.

I had several relatives serve in the Pacific campaign, including a great uncle who was on the march of Bataan and spent like 2 years as a POW. The battles, the logistics, the naval component, everything fits perfectly with modern wargaming, but for some reason the gaming gods want to just keep cranking out West Front/Normandy games all the time.

If you own HoI 3 and all of it's expansions, I'd suggest this.

Otherwise don't bother. Paradox has a crazy pricing policy, but sometimes, you can get their stuff cheap from gamersgate or steam.

When you consider the amount of time spent playing WiTP, it's probably the cheapest game per hour out there, despite the high initial cost!
