Software Archive

Fri Sep 30, 2011 10:48 pm

I wonder if anyone ever considers the loss of computer games. I think there are a few archive sites around but I have no idea how many games (or other software) are saved by them - and will the few archive sites themselves be saved? I mean for hundreds+ years.

Even though it seems that games have been around for ages we are really still at the beginning I imagine. Doom, Half Life - well you could come up with a long list.
I would hope that games like AGEOD make as well as the mainstream could still be remembered, played or studied in years to come.
One could even make a case that some are works of art.

Just a thought after sitting in the garden nursing a beer or two :)

Cheers, Chris

It's an interesting idea, but I'm not sure how it could work.

Wouldn't there be issues with hardware compatibility, and all that?
It seems that games would need to be compiled in a way that made them platform independant.

What I know about this sort of stuff, you could hide in a thimble. Maybe MarkShot or one of the Developers can comment.
