I have question re the multiplayer game and survivability. My impression is that most factions contain 2 or 3 regions. In a game of 500 turns that could result in alot of the participating players taking an early bath when some factions start to gain ascendancy. Has this aspect been play tested?

yes.


By design, not all nations are equal, some give an easier start than others, some are better placed for the mid-game etc. There is a lot of in-game guidance to help people choose but yes there will be early knock outs - not least the AI is quite effective. So even if the players semi-cooperate its possible to be knocjked out.
