Treaty of Constantinople 1700

Sun Jan 28, 2018 6:44 pm

Signed on 13 July 1700 between the Tsardom of Russia and the Ottoman Empire. It ended the Russo-Turkish War of 1686-1700. Russian tsar Peter the Great secured possession of the Azov region and freed his forces to participate in the Great Northern War.

GNW scenario starts in January 1700, so in fact The Tsar is at war with the Porte. Apparently this is not reflected in the game, is it? And cannot find any event or option.

As the Ottomans were left out of the game in the first version, I suppose the designers did not include it. It could possibly be in the game just as a flavor event though

Left out? They participated in the war for a short period. The menace should be there.

Yes, please, add the treaty event . But only flavour is enough? Seems important not to have two opened war fronts at a time.

Created a pic for the event if it is needed, or will it be an option?

Pic of the Sultan Mustafa II.

Besides to what is said in the wiki, some more info on this treaty.

Source: LeDonne. The Russian Empire and the World, 1700–1917

Code: Select all

The Russians obtained only an armistice for two years; negotiations
continued in Constantinople, where peace was signed in 1700. Russia
gained Azov and retained Taganrog, but agreed to raze the forts it had
built on the lower course o f the Dniepr between Ochakov and the
Zaporozhian Cossack zone and to leave deserted (inculte et inhabité) the
area between the Perekop isthmus and the Mius River, the approaches to
the Crimea. The Ottomans agreed to end the custom by which the tsar
was still paying tribute to the Crimean khan: it had been argued that the
payment of tribute to a vassal of the sultan made Russia a vassal state of
the Ottoman Empire, the successor of the Golden Horde. Thus by 1700,
Russia finally emancipated itself from its vassalage to the world of its other
parent culture, the Turco-Mongol oecumene, of which it had been a marginal
phenomenon for so long.

In game terms:

- The game is right on start, no war with the Turks, an armistice until peace.

- Azov should not be russian until after the treaty, Move the fleet to Taganrog.

- The tsardom should have more money at its disposal after the treaty. Seems incredible it was still paying a tribute to a vassal of the ottomans, so the tsar was a vassal of a vassal?

Good finds...

As for the tribute, the whole thing was true..I had thought it had ceased after the battle of Kulikovo or during the times of Ivan Grozny but apparently not :papy:
