Group Make-up?

Does anyone have any advice or tips on what's the best unit make-up for a group?

Do you keep it all one unit type? Or do you create a combined arms force: infantry, cavalry, and artillery? What is the most effective?

A balanced force, except for light cavalry used for scouting.
