Does anyone else feel like retreat mechanics are a bit off in WON? It's now the second time that I've watched my armies get up and walk away from entrenchments, despite orders to hold at all costs. Not a single bullet is fired, not a single man lost. They just, well, walk away. And the odds are not that bad. In the last battle it was 1:1.
In all my previous AGEOD gaming history (AJE BOR NAP WIA RUS RUS-G PON TEAW and I'm sure a few others I'm forgetting) I've never seen that. Mind you, we're not talking cavalry detachments here, but rather 50,000+ men strong stacks with artillery, supply trains.
I'm not aware of a single battle in Napoleonic era where one of the enemies would withdraw like that. Because the stronger side would initiate combat.
Of all previous games in my opinion RUS had it down best: retreat likelihood was a factor of unit speed and unit size. A single counter could run. A division would get caught in fighting.
Thoughts?
