Cossacks

Sat Dec 05, 2015 8:50 pm

Playing Russia in Jan 1805, I wanted to build Ural Cossacks, but....

1: While the map moves to the area, there is no green color. (thought this was a bug, but per #2...)

2: It says I don't have the necessary structure.

(It isn't just the Ural Cossacks, but other Cossack units as well)

Curious as to what I need to do to build them.

Douple-click on the unit in the build-pool <F11> and the map focus will move to the the Urals OMB (Off Map Box). As long as Perm in the Urals is Russian, that's the only place you can build them.

If it is lost, they have an one alternate build area which is the Volga Area (press <5> to assert the Areas map filter to have Areas highlighted in color), which is around Tzaristsyn (modern Volgograd, not so moder Stalingrad ;) ). They need a town to be build, so one of those two must be Russian to build them.

This is what I get.
Same thing with the Don/Volga Cossacks. (In the areas they would build.)

The unit may need a town. Try developing the region.

Are you dropping the Ural Cossacks into the Urals OMB (the square in which Urals is written)?

When I tried it and it worked as expected.

Prim is a town/city.

You cannot create towns/cities regardless of how much you develop a region.

Doesn't matter where in the OMB I drop it, I get the same message. (Shouldn't it turn green like the other builds do? Don And Volga Cossacks are the same way. No green build area. Same lack of structure message.))

Orange indicates legal build area, but you lack enough resources to build! Check the build cost.
Always ask yourself: "Am I part of the Solution?" If you aren't, then you are part of the Problem!

The build cost is more than covered.

Yes, if Russia didn't have enough resources to build the unit, the unit would be red in the build pool.

Aurelin, could you post a save from your game please?

Management Summery

Works exactly as designed... well, with one small issue ;)

--

The first time you open the build pool <F11>, if you drag a unit across one of the Rally Point buttons, the game engine starts doing some kind of calculations and then focuses on the Rally Point of the button you crossed. Basically the game engine is sensing the mouse pointer passing over the button with the left MB pressed.

The good news is, you simply drop the unit back into the Build Pool and the map focus will return to its previous position :w00t: . Now that Athena has taken her sight seeing tour, you can drag units across the Rally Point buttons without any adverse affects... at least until the next time you start the game again :neener:

Ahhhh!!! Thank you!!

So I have to make sure not to cross those rally buttons. Which would explain why the map jumped to St Petersburg......

**************************************************************************************************
Spoke too soon. I dragged the Ural unit to the far right, moved it to the box, and get the same message.......

No clue what to do now. Even a fresh install didn't change anything.

As it works for you, I'm 99% certain the problem is on my end.

Regroup Armies ON

Sounds ON

Pause after battle OFF

Fog of War ON

Activate AI/Use all behaviors/More time ON

Sleep mode/No winter map OF

Textures initialized ON

The sliders I haven't touched.

What I'm having a hard time getting is that the other units I could buy, the areas I can build them turn green, the ones for all the Cossacks stay orange.

ps, (I haven't given up on the game. Just had to walk away for a bit.)

I don't know what the 'untouched' settings are per default.

Only the Urals Cossacks can be built in the Urals OMB, the rest are built in a large area between Crimea and the Urals.

I know that... :) But I get the same result with both Don and Volga. The map centers on what I assume is the build area. And you get the same missing structure message.

These are a bit confusing, unfamiliar with attaching multiple pics.

From the top.

What you see when you want to build a Don/Volga/Ural Cossack. Not a single green area.

Next, what the map centers on when you're zoomed in and want to build Don/Volga. (Volga in this case.)

Next, all the areas in which I can build a mixed cav brigade.

Last, my putting a Volga Cossack on what the map centered on. The second map in sequence is the result.

I'm have no idea at the moment.

What I do find very odd is the last illustration: "Now playing: NCP_Assembliee". I've never seen that before and have no idea how to reproduce it.

Music I think? Haven't played it with the headphones.

Any way. Thanks much for the help. (Two others at Matrix Games, one posted here, have the same thing.)

Guess I can't play as the Russians for now.... :mdr:

I'm going to start restart this in the tech thread. More exposure I would think.

I believe these cossacks had a buggy recruitment area in release, and it has been fixed in our current internal version. Have you tried, Captain? I can see recruitment region in current build.

I find no issue with building any of the Cossacks in 1.00RC3.

I've looked at the units too. The Urals Cossacks have build area Urals_OMB with alternate Volga Area. All of the other Cossacks units have build area Cossacks_area--or something similar.

It may well be an issue with the 1.00 DB, but I can't compare because .... reasons

Eh, stuff happens. If book printers can still miss problems in books (Such as volume 23 of Kent's Bolitho series. Page 106, 108, 108, 109), well. why not computer game programmers? :coeurs:

Yeah. Ran into similar issue, cant recruit new Cossack regiments. Also for some reason my newly built hussar regiments get branded as Cossack. And some minor misspellings, keep seeing Russian "polk" (regiment), being misspelled as "pulk"; and observation balloon unit for some reason is "iskrovaya" (sparks), instead of "vozduhoplavatel'naya rota". Otherwise, superb game, enjoy it as much as I enjoyed PON. Good job guys.
