I haven't played any other Ageod games, but I'm up for a challenge. I think I get the hang of most of the game but a few things still need to sink in.
The one thing I would like to know is whether it is of any use to integrate support units such as medics, engineers, etc. into a corps rather than another cannon/infantry unit?
Does this have any advantage over simply leaving them in an army stack?

There is no avantage. Put in the integrated corps the units that take the most command points.
