So playing a PBEM as the CP, decide when the UK joins to sail out in force to try to hit some of the various small stacks as the group.

Bad Idea, the entire UK fleet assembles north of Dogger Bank and then wins 3 battles, thankful it only cost 1 NM and no real loss. However I end up in the Channel and the British fleet between me and any port, I try to evade and on the next turn lose again thankfully once again no real loss.

However it seems I am not going to get back to a safe port, I am at a loss on what to do. At the moment my plan is to flee to Africa, taking out any ships in my path and then try to sneak back at a later date or to an OE port later on and rule the Med.

So any ideas as I am pretty sure that i will not get replacements for the fleet in Africa or China. Should I retreat or just try to like go around Scotland and back?

No advice about your problem. But, I had to shudder when you mentioned sailing around Scotland to get home. That didn’t work out so well for the Spanish in 1588.

You probably have figured out a solution, but one thing you can do in addition to evade is to go green/green in combat stance in addition to selecting avoid combat.
Alternatively, put your fast ships in one fleet as they will have a slightly better opportunity to slip through.

Can`t you create a more sophisticated path using shift?
Turn is 14 days, might as well use them to go slightly around, not directly.
