What's a "Guard Unit"?

Hello,
what's the purpose of the "Guard Unit" special ability?

High cohesion? I can't honestly remember, just don't lose them; they work great when breaking enemy lines.
You could always compare stats with a normal line infantry unit in the unit detail screen.

They should be a lot tougher.
These were infantry units that had in previous wars distinguished themselves. As a reward the entire unit was designated a Guards unit.
The other type of Guards are the infantry units whose job it is to guard the monarch. Typically there would be enough of them to form a unit of their own. Life Guards is sometimes used to distinguish between the two. They guard the monarchs life
These units, especially the latter were the most elite in the army. These were the absolute best soldiers they had and it was the most honorable post to hold. Even being a ground infantryman.

Guards were the 'Best' Units in the armies, the 'Elite'.
Eg: British Foot Guards division had the Blackwatch, Grenadier Guards etc.
Prussian/German Guards and Guard Reserve (actually created from the minor kingdom's guards battalions) were used often as 'DurchBruch' or Breakthrough divisions along with the AlpenKorps (created from Bavarian Guard) on all fronts.
I still feel they must be buffed more and cost a bit more in replacements, available only to UK, Germany and Russia, France can have the Legion as Guard (But only 1 division).
