frontage width II

I do not want to steal Vigabrands threat, so therefore this new one.
I can see that frontage width is somehow important for the outcome of a battle, but I'm uncertain what to do with certain informations.
The frontage width is almost 48 everywhere for both offensiveness as defensiveness. So there is nothing to think about here, is there?
I also have a question about some unit combat attributes: what does it mean when it says: 'frontage, closed: 19' and 'frontage, open: 4'? what is it telling me about frontage? (it is stats from Howitzer regiment)
Hope someone can enlighten me.

It depends on the weather. In clear weather in clear terrain, the inf need 4 frontage. So with 48 Frontage, you can deploy 12 inf in a fight.
But in clear and woods, there are some bonus, which depends on the leader. In the other titels you habe 25*(Leader rank +skill) as bonus frontage, which maintain more troops. Bud still unclear how the formular for EAW is.

Frontage was set to 48 in most terrains to limit combat to 2 corps at a time. This makes battles longer and increases the importance of bringing reserves and artillery to the fight.
It's lower in certain places (mountains, behind rivers, etc) but for the most part 48 is the number. This is somewhat different than other AGEOD titles, where many more troops could be engaged, but it helps tremendously for slowing down breaches in the enemy line during offensives.

Frontage closed 19 and open 4 are just approximations for extremes (mountains and clear terrain). Since frontage vary a lot based on terrain and weather, there are so many possible combinations which would not be easy and pretty to display in unit stat panel. So, I don't bother with 4 and 19 numbers. I first select the stack, and then go to terrain map overlay (keyboard shortcut 7 or 8). Besides number of abstract frontage points, I can now see how many elements of my actual stack will participate in each fire phase of each combat round.
About commander frontage bonuses, I am also curious if they apply to this title as well.

But there should be some defensive advantages for defending, say, in the woods in respect to a clear terrain, right? Frontage was one of them, probably leveled (apart from mountains, rivers, as you say), but what about other defensive bonuses according to terrain?

There are lots of bonuses for defending in rough terrain. Look at the terrain map overlay.

Ah ok, just wanted to make sure he did not take them out by design (and had not noticed). I had not noticed that frontage had been changed for most terrain either. PON's combat rules follow me everywhere!

I'm really lost here. Is there any information about this anywhere?
When I press 7 for terrain I can see how many elements that will participate: "For line Elts.: 10" and "for support Elts.: 8" Is that the numbers you talk about? And why not tell me that in a simple language: 'only to units can participate!' because I still don't know what I am told? Is it 10 elements that participate in all rounds?
When I press 8 (weather) I can't find any info about frontage?
Thanks for helping me out.
