I don't know, what, when, why to set posture and ROE on my airfield bases and air squadrons.

I usually put them with an army so that they stay protected. Posture settings
don't really matter on them conducting missions, unless they are set to passive.
Otherwise, it's pretty automated.

Yep, I also put them often with an Army. Esp. b/c they also synchro-move, and in some situations otherwise wouldn't be protected.

i always put them in armies, 2 advantages-
They act as signal+recon, so they add to detection and CP of the army.
Plus they butcher enemy recon
Added advantage is they cannot be easily attacked or captured if within a 800 power Army stack.

Actually the manual says to keep them independent and in the region behind the front for not taking unnecessary hits, but Shri's advice is valid if you need that extra boost. Personally, I have not decided what to do, sometimes I keep them with armies, sometimes I have them independent. I tend for the latter cause I want to move them around and have do recon where I need it, independently of my ground movements.

Usually I have them in armies, rarelly in corps. That way they will keep up with the frontline and not risk getting captured (I've captured ai air units) or left behind...

I have them with the armies mostly, but only if the armies are entrenched and do not appear to be in danger of being attacked and dislodged/forced to retreat. When I'm attacking I leave them behind until I win the battle/region and my army settles in for some good old fashioned entrenching and fortifying.
