Mixing supportive units of different nationalities

Does it matter if I mix lets say a french pontoon unit with a Brittish General?

You get a CP penalty, the french unit will take more CP to be commanded than usual. But it is possible that french pontoon is a specialist with no command point needed, in this case it will not change anything. I do not remember.
