Given that there is a possibility that Italy can join the Central Powers, I am wondering if something needs to be done about Sardinia and Corsica. Right now they are unplayable and appear to only be on the map for flavor. But if Italy had gone to war as an ally of Germany, both would have been potential targets.
Sardinia was part of the Kingdom of Italy since the 1861 Unification. However, during the Napoleonic wars, it had been annexed to France. Although it was returned to Savoy in the Congress of Vienna, France might seek to renew its claims based on Italy's alliance with Germany. Corsica, despite its past history of rebellion and independence, by 1914 was a solid part of France and supplied many troops from its population. However at one time it had also been a part of an Italian state, in this case Genoa. Although Genoa was absorbed into Italy, it is likely Italy might have asserted some claim if it was a German ally. Either island would have strategic importance in a war between Italy and France, given their potential as stepping stones for amphibious descents.
I realize Italy is more likely to become an allied power. But if it goes CP, it seems like the possibilities in the Mediterranean are given short shrift due to the deletion of both the above islands. There is a secondary argument to be made for Libya, which lay between French and British North African possessions. Libya may also deserve some treatment, e.g. such as the coastal strip that connects British Egypt to the Ottoman Levant.
Not sure how big a deal map changes are. And this should not be a high priority. But perhaps in some future patch this can be addressed.
