If you have troubles with PON patch 1.04

Fri Sep 16, 2016 4:16 pm

Dear players,

It seems new issues arose with the patch. Some might be due to missing files in it. So we have to get some help from you to confirm this is the problem. Please be sure to be at least a bit confident in moving files in Windows!

Open your Pride of Nations game directory.

Open PON directory.

Rename Alias and Gamedata directory to something else (append an underscore)

Download the archive
https://we.tl/DznQpQWWIW

Here you'll find a new alias and gamedata directory.

Place them at the same position as the 2 folders you renamed.

Try running PON and report.

The issues caused by the fact that the official 1.04 update deletes the VGN\Graphics folder and replaces it only partially, are not resolved with this download, as it doesn't contain a Graphics folder.

The starving-to-death garrisons bug isn't resolved either:

The mistakes concerning diplomacy are still there:

And I will send you a bottle of wine into the office (promise!), if the problem with speeding up resarch, reported by djconklin in that thread, has been resolved by replacing the game data files.

I am getting "application is stalling" when I start the game. And the log files aren't updating, so there is nothing to report. I did a fresh install of from Gamersgate, and then an install of 1.04 from the patch. I got that error. Then I tried this fix. Got the same error.

If you want to play the game, you have the choice between two evils:

A. Install and use the latest 1.04 beta patch:

http://www.ageod-forum.com/showthread.php?43536-PON-Public-beta-patch-1-04-June-10th

Advantage: the installation process works.
Disadvantage: no stars for the experience of elements are shown, which is bad if you want to enjoy followig the development of your regiments as a feature of the game. See also other problems reported in the thread above.

B. Install the official 1.04 patch:

http://www.ageod-forum.com/showthread.php?50152-Pride-of-Nations-has-been-updated-to-Version-1-04!

Advantage: the stars for the experience of elements are shown. I dont know whether anything else has been improved in comparison to the 1.04 beta patch.
Disadvantage: awkward installation process to make it work (see message #20 in the linke above), and see some reports of other problems in that thread.
Severe bug: You cannot buy reinforcements for garrison troops, so eventually all your garrisons will die. Maybe this will happen to the AI garrisons as well, so that you remain on a par with the AI in this respect. (Maybe this happened already in the 1.04 beta patch, I haven't checked.)

Both patches don't address several glitches and errros which have been reported in this forum many times, but for most of these problems there is a workaround.

A problem is that bugs and glitches are only found by accident, while playing the game, but that often known and unmended bugs deter potential players (and buyers) from starting a game, waiting for the next patch instead.
