I tried to play with the 7 day turn and the regular turn and the game crashes after the first two weeks. Any idea why? It was a fresh install of Civil War II. :( I really want to play with this. I really like the new styles and stuff and having all those generals will be interesting.

Can someone tell me how to edit the recruitment units? I would love to add and edit some units, i.e. replacing cavalry and artillery from the units with infantry and conscripts to allow more flexibility

I am in the exact same boat. I am running Windows 10. I did a fresh install, patched to 1.06, followed the instructions and it crashes out. Any thoughts as to why this is happening?

Sorry, I haven't been here in a while. I'll upload a version of the mod I'm using myself with Windows 10 and CW1.06 without deleting anything from it.
It will be a really large file though but you might want to try it and see if you get the same error.

EDIT:
I've now uploaded a full version of the mod, which I'm using myself. Download the mod again and see if the crash still occurs (the zip-file is now 1.3GB)
I also ran a quick autoplay for 10 turns without a crash. Although it could also be happening due to some user created stuff (recruited units for example). Are you getting any specific error message when the crash occurs?

To create new recruitable brigades you need to do this:
1. Create a new alias for the unit in \Aliases\uni_Alias.ini and GameData\Units\uni_Alias.ini (it's the same file on two different places)
2. Copy an existing unit file, for example 242USAInfantry Bde (NY).uni located in GameData\Units\ (the name of the new file doesn't really matter)
3. Edit the new file to your liking and make sure to change the first line (UID = 2310) to your new alias number

You can mix different units with the below lines. Just make sure that you don't add any more units than is defined by the number after familytype.
If you put a greater number in familytype it just means that the unit will be able to merge with other units, until the max amount of units is reached.

ModelType0 = $mdl_USA_Inf5|1
ModelType1 = $mdl_USA_Inf5|1
ModelType2 = $mdl_USA_Inf5|1
ModelType3 = $mdl_USA_Inf6|1
FamilyType0 = $famLeader|1
FamilyType1 = $famLine|4


4. If you want, you can also create new models (like I did with USCT cavalry) and include them in your new unit file (models also need to be added to their respective alias files)
As I see it, the model-files are the different unit types in the game and the unit-files put these different models together. Most often by themselves (as with leaders) but also with brigades.

Most models are also very often depending on CMN-models to get their stats.
If you look at 199USAPioneers.mdl you can see that it does not contain any stats about it's quality, weight, supply etc.
All these values are taken from $mdl_CMN_Pio which is the file called 37CMNPioneers.mdl

5. When the unit's ready you must add a forcepool for the new unit with an event like below.
You can add the event to an existing event file or create your own like I've done.
It's easier to keep track of things if you create your own and just call it from the main scenario event file (in my case 1861 April Campaign.sct)
Look at line 50 in "1861 April Campaign.sct" to see how it's done

StartEvent = evt_nam_USA_CWDB_Forcepool_WV64|1|1|NULL|NULL|NULL|NULL

Conditions

6. To make a unit spawn in the game at a specific time you need to first create it with above steps.
Then you need to add the unit as with the forcepools but instead you create the unit itself with a command like below:

A recommendation is to get a good program with which to search the different textfiles. I use a program called Total Commander which is excellent for this kind of work.

I've now installed the latest patch (1.06.03) and made sure my mod works correctly with this.
A new zip-file is uploaded. The file is kind of large (1.2GB) but since I know people have had problems when I removed files I thought were not necessary, I'm leaving everything in. You still need to have to original game installed though.

Denver, awesome mod but unfortunately after the last patch I am missing the leader picture ( the one where it would list all the units in the stack.)

Also the volunteer forces do not have a unit picture on the unit bar. This makes it very difficult if not impossible to move them out of units and recruit new volunteer forces.

This was one of my favorite mods last summer and am happy to see that you have continued to get it running again.

Denver, I have downloaded the latest version of your mod and am still missing the Unit art for the generals you have added as well as the unit art for volunteer and militia units. Are you having this problem in your games? Is there a way maybe to just upload the unit art for leaders and volunteer/militia units?

I like the attention to detail on the cavalry part. Not many are aware of how much more effective cavalry from the Southern states were, since they had many of their own horses, and was required to learn to ride well due to lack of rail roads w/ vast country side.

No, I've never seen problems with this in my mod. Does the problem go away when you play "vanilla"?
I could upload just the unit art but it's already in the zipfile. Perhaps it doesn't unzip properly?
I always use 7zip and that has always worked for me.

I'm using 7zip, however I am getting an error log when it's downloaded.

Here are the things I seem to be missing by going off your last change log post...

-Added leaders unit art
-volunteer unit art
-added unit art (quartermaster & provost)
-added leader bios (not sure if you had added these or not)
-some events do not have a description (naval engineers & railroad engineers)

Also I am playing the CSA I haven't checked to see if the US is the same. At the moment I found an outdated file containing most of the added leaders from your mod so I loaded just the files that were missing.
This has worked, however I'm still missing the above that you have created recently.

The art for when the militia infantry upgrades in the "state militia brigades" is missing. The CMN infantry, as opposed to regular CSA infantry.

THANK YOU! Would you mind terribly providing detailed installation instructions? I tried one other mod and broke my game. I must not be understanding the logic of how to add mods to CW2. I have a steam version if that helps.

I see that the instructions do not specify how to run the mod itself. To do this, you need to open the Modpath file with a text editor and paste the word

cwdb_mod

there , that is, the name of the new folder . Then save and run the game.

To turn off the mod and return to the vanilla game, you need to delete this word from the Modpath file.

Ok, did my best to follow the instructions. I downloaded, unzipped, and then copied over all files to:

C:\Steam\steamapps\common\Civil War II\CW2

This appeared to have all the similarly named folders as your mod. I overwrote all. I checked for Models.Cached and Units.Cached, but the folders were empty.

When I launch the game I am getting the above error message and the game crashes to desktop. Please let me know what I am doing wrong or should try! I did this on a clean install and launched the game in vanilla one time before applying the mod files.

Ok I reinstalled via steam to vanilla state and started over.

I unzipped the mod to: C:\Steam\steamapps\common\Civil War II

it looks like this:

I edited the modpath file in wordpad

I launch the game and get the same error code. I was not asked to overwrite any files this time as the entire mod folder is alongside, not inside, the CW2 folder. So I am really stumped as to what I am doing wrong.

I think I figured it out. Under settings there was a russian localstrings file that I deleted. That seemed to be crashing the load. I also had to delete the unit and model cache files to prevent a crash on loading. I am now inside the game, so I will try running the april campaign!
