Re: Portrait mod

Tue Oct 03, 2017 2:29 pm

Its very basic, I offered to help re-write some of the events and files etc to add generals to the game with new portraits, however what they wanted to do was to keep the vanilla game and add the portraits we all made in this forum to get rid of generic portraits in the main campaign. You will still have generic portraits in the smaller campaigns, especially for Union, just because of the sheer number of them and also since some generals were not well known and don't have good pictures. But in the main campaign there should not be any generic portraits except maybe one Union Naval Officer Chase, which for me is awesome. There was also some corrections, i.e. using the correct portrait for Speed Fry.

The other cool thing is that even though they did not want to add new generals and re-write events, for those of us who know how to add generals there will already be included numerous additional generals, some very popular ones, that did not appear in the vanilla game. So all you have to do is make the mdl/unit files and add the generals and their portraits will already be there as long as you point to the right portrait files. I can always put my own mod out here with all the generals already added since I have already made that MOD for myself with all the general portraits from this patch.

I hope that makes you guys happy, having the main campaigns without generic portraits to me is a big deal and there was a lot of hard work we all put into adding them...and then having some finished portraits of new generals to add at your whimsy is pretty cool. So hopefully they release the patch soon for download on the website. I have the patch but I was under the impression they were going to do a formal release, hopefully even on Steam. I'll let you know when Phil Thib gives his final word.

First & foremost, thanks for all your work, lads. Truly appreciated! :D

@PhilThib
Consider me impatient! Where do I get it? :) Can I apply it over the 1.06 patch?

Again, thank you both very much!

By gone missing you mean just the portrait right? Let me know if you see anything else missing. I already figured out why his portrait disappeared, I'll let Phil know.

FYI the model file in the patch just has an extra space for on the portrait line.

Thank you!

Please feel free to send me a private message if you have questions about the portraits contained in the MOD/PATCH once it is available for download.

But keep in mind that there are some PDF's that come with the mod that explain many things about the generals and why some portraits were used for some generals.

Also, there is a really cool alternate version of AP Hill if you change the model file to use that one I think its one of the best general portraits for any general in the game...actually it is the same picture as I use for my avatar so you can see it right now lol.

Dear Devs and Community,

does that Patch work for the Steam Version, too?

I have tried it and copied the files into the game folders with the same name each but it worked only in the case of Speed Fry (his wrong portrait was overwritten).

All other Portraits do not appear.

What must be done to make the entire patch work?

I'm sure the devs have already fixed it if it was an issue on their end but for anyone who else who's also missing C. Polignac's portrait while playing the CSA the fast fix I figured was to remove an extra space in the Unit_CSA_ Polecat.png on line 379 of the Models.Cached file in the GameData/Models/ folder. All I did was open up the file using notepad++ and searched for "polecat". After removing the space his new portrait shows up. Otherwise it's a little hard to move his unit card. Love the portraits you've added. Thanks for making the game more authentic.

Just a note to those with gmail accounts, gmail security probably won't allow me to send an email with the mod file attached. Yahoo & hotmail do work, however :)

Hi mate! I'd be more than happy to do that for you but you might need a hotmail account if that's no bother? The mod file doesn't seem to like gmail or yahoo :bonk:

Sorry, but I don't think I do have that file. Someone else here on the forum might have it though so it might pay to ask about :)

As for the mod file, I'll email it to you within the next 12-16 hours. Glad to help! :)
