Conscripts will forever remain the conscripts?

Sun Jan 20, 2019 8:43 pm

Hi all!

Could you answer the question please!
Conscripts receive combat experience, but remain "conscripts" status anyway until they are trained by commanders with special abilities??
Conscript Unit have to get a huge combat experience during the game to reach Regular Unit`s basic parameters but at the same time will remain "conscripts status" and "conscripts" NATO-symbol anyway.

Am I right?
If so, it's not entirely realistic :crying:

As far as I know, infantry models that have the description "conscript" also have an ability to upgrade to "regular" infantry. But both of those are just words. "Conscript" and "regular" in the terms of the game are just descriptions. The only real difference is their combat values, and both of those types can improve. Eventually most conscript models will upgrade to regular line infantry (or cavalry), even without a leader with a training ability. However, I think some of the models designated conscript will retain the description even after they've upgraded. This is misleading but if you look at the combat values you should see the increases.

Is that what you're referring to or did I misunderstand you?

Thank you, grimjaw
Yeah, that's what I wanted to know.

Really? I didn't notice...
Also I wanted to say that in ACW2 (and RUS) the time it takes to train from conscript to regular (1 turn = 2 weeks in our case) is much shorter than required for receiving the same Unit`s statistics in battles, but not in trainings.

But in reality, green Units get regular Units experience much earlier during battles.
Another words - we need 2 weeks trainings or more that a year fighting to get the same Unit`s statistics.
That is why it is not entirely realistic in AGEod battle system.

Forgive me my English :)

Forgive me my English

Your English is much better than my Russian.

Below I've pasted some settings from CW2 that deal with experience. As I mentioned before, most if not all of the models in CW2 described as "conscript" also have a TrainUpg value specified. There's a 7% chance per turn for that upgrade to to kick in, regardless of the model's experience level. Also, there's a chance per turn for a unit to gain experience and levels even if it's doing nothing. The maximum number of levels that can be achieved by models this way is 2, but you can set it higher or lower (see below).

As far as the realism aspect, I'll leave that discussion alone. :)

expMaxLevel = 1000
expProgCoeff = 100 // Prog Rate overall modifier in %
expXpGainCoeff = 100 // Xp gain overall modifier in %
expXpGainCoeffLeaderKill = 10 // Leaders get 10% of their subordinate SU xp gain
expXpGainCoeffLeaderDie = 5 // Leaders lose 5% of their subordinate SU xp worth loss
expXPGainWhenHittingH = 50 // this value of hundredth of xp when hitting an enemy
expMinLevelTrain = 1 // min level before we can Level Train
expChancePerXPLevelTrain = 7 // % chance per turn per level to switch to TrainUpg (if level expMinLevelTrain or more)
expXPLevelUpgRetainPerc = 10 // % xp kept when TrainUpg/TechUpg
expReplChanceSpendTechUpg = 50 // chance to spend a rpl when TechUpg
expAutoGainXPChance = 75 // % chance per turn to gain 1 xp
expAutoGainXPMaxLevel = 2 // max level that can be reached with autogain
expGainPtsOffFire = 50 // gain in hundredth of points to a given stat. Rounding to 1 starts at 0.50
expGainPtsDefFire = 50
expGainPtsInit = 25
expGainPtsRange = 10 // VGN is 0
expGainPtsROF = 10 // means first bonus is at level 11
expGainPtsDisc = 35
expGainPtsAslt = 65
expGainPtsPolice = 100
expGainPtsPatrol = 100
expGainPtsEvade = 100
expGainPtsCoh = 500
expGainPtsDetect = 7
expGainPtsHide = 7
expGainPtsAirRec = 50
expGainPtsAirCbt = 100
expGainPtsAirBmb = 100

Thanks a lot, grimjaw!
This is really clear you mentioned above.
I `m not a person who changing developer settings... At least I'm still a beginner and trust their settings more than my attempts.
But if we are talking about my game strategy, I will try to train as many coscripts as possible. Otherwise, their progress in the field will be very slow.

You're much better off to train militia/volunteers that are less expensive than conscripts with Halleck/Siegel/McClellan. All of them upgrade to the same unit.

Thank you, Gray Fox!
Yeah, I used to do that. Sure we can save money this way.

So training is the only way to rapidly upgrade green units.

What I usually do as CSA, is put the guy who gives 1 exp per turn to the New Orleans Garrison to train a couple of divisions up slowly and the the guy who trains 2 regiments per turn in Tennesee because there's so many Kentuckians he can turn from volunteers to line infantry. In my previous game, I used up almost all of the volunteer units because they were very cheap even with huge inflation by late game.

The scale of mobilization I achieved was pretty crazy and I run out of artillery recruitment which made sense and there were only some recruitable infantry left. Thanks Kentucky.

It was a PBEM with minor victory.

Hi Searry, thank you!

Oh! That`s an interesting trick, I will try this way either.

As for the link you`ve posted - I don`t understand those codes. :bonk:
I do not have time yet to learn it deeply. And to be honest I am not going to mode something in the future.

Thanks again!

What Searry posted was a saved game, an .hst file zipped.

Just click on the link, download the file csamob.zip, unzip in your saves folder and load it in the game.
