Gettysburg cyclorama building demolished

Wed Aug 15, 2018 9:23 am

I visited this in about 1968. Random idling on Wikipedia led me to this - via Mission 66.

Time to play the Gettysburg scenario from CW2 and AACW again.

You just scarred the sh*t out of me Taillebois. I thought you were talking about the Visiter's Center/Museum, and that some rouge tornado or something had destroyed it :crying:

I didn't even realize that there was a Cyclorama building, and I stayed right next door to its site in July 2013. I did wonder why the field next to the parking lot looked so raggedy though :)

If I read everything correctly, the actual painting(s) still hang in the Museum and Visitor's Center. The Cyclorama building no longer remains. The historical artifact was saved for the respectful admiration of future guests. So, the memorial art outlived the architecture that housed it. Hopefully somewhere down the line, the painting won't end up in that storage room with the Ark of the Covenant that Indiana Jones brought back.

Well I just played the Gettysburg scenario - albeit on AACW 1.06 - and got a glorious victory as the confederates by occupying Washington rather than Gettysburg having feinted a rush to get those mythical shoes.
