What does it take for Lincoln to lose the election in November 1864?

My game is set at Lieutenant level; I am playing the South.

The North has done poorly and only hold Arizona, ½ of Texas and Wilmington NC.

The South has taken Saint Louis and all of Missouri, all of Kentucky except for a few unimportant cities by West Virginia, Cairo, Indianapolis, Columbus and a number of other important cities in the Northwest. In the East, the Confederacy holds Alexandria, Harper’s Ferry and a chunk of Maryland.

The Confederates are ahead by 400 Victory points.

Yet Lincoln won the election! What is up with that?

IFAIK there is no way to cause Lincoln to lose the election; just make him lose the war, which it sounds like you are well on your way to doing .

to represent the election, the loss threshold increases. I can't remember what exactly, but it moves from 45 to 60 or 50 to 75, something like that.

You'll get a popup if you're playing as the north.

You're winning in the Democratic areas. You need to attack the Republican strongholds, otherwise Lincoln's backers have an even bigger edge.

If after the increase you lose due to a NM "sudden death" then you can consider Lincoln has lost the election and the democrats sued for peace.
