The Netherlands is also interested however due to many other priorities at the moment it will probably be several years before you could see a commitment from us.

A late deadline is something we are willing to consider. Maybe in a couple of years?

Letter of Protest regarding actions of Russian Empire in the Orient

The government of China protests both military and political invasion of Chinese soil by Russian agents. Not only have Russian missionaries entered lands where Confucianism is the sole religion of indigenous population, but so have 2 regiments of Russian infantry that crossed Ussuri river.

Russian agents are hereby given 30 (thirty) days to return back home, and all Russian structures under construction are to be demolished.

The government of China calls upon the civilized world to step forward and help rule in this outrageous action of Russian empire.

France is unsure as to why such aggressive action is necessary when the Qing have proven more than willing to cooperate with the great powers of Europe. We believe that such actions will cause much harm to the region and to international diplomacy as well, and it is our hope that Russia will choose diplomacy over military action to achieve their goals.

The Kingdom of The Netherlands believes that the world community needs to hear from both nations on this. What does The Russian Empire have to say in regards to this situation?

Second Letter of Protest regarding actions of Russian Empire in Amur

The government of China continues to protests ongoing Russian efforts to colonize territories already flying the Chinese banner. This week there were Russian agents spotted in at least 3 regions, attempting to bribe local officials. Yet there have been no efforts by the Russian government to respond.

We call on all Russian neighbors to be vigilant, for any of them can be the next target. Russian juggernaut must be stopped!

OOC - just have been cathching up with the diplo thread. AFAIK, those soldiers have been there from day 1, I definitely did not move them there. Will check the situation though.

IC - Governor of the Far East is currently being recalled to the Court to report on alleged atrocities against the Xing. Travelling through Siberia during winter might prove to be challenging, though.

The Kingdom of the Netherlands is curious, as I am sure many other nations are to why both the British Empire and the Russian Empire are having influences in the Kingdom of Hanover? This is just a curiosity and not a complaint as the Netherlands considers both nations to be friends of our Kingdom.

Great Britain would like to thank the Dutch for their curiosity in the matter of British and Hanoverian relations and wish to remind the Dutch Government that our very own King George III was also King of Hanover. The current king of Hanover, Ernest Augustus I, is also the oldest surviving son of King George III. For about 150 years Great Britain and Hanover have had extremely close relations.

However, the British Government was not aware of Russian meddling in Hanoverian affairs and will investigate the matter forthwith.

China was warning everyone about Russian unstoppable ambitions. They are encroaching on Europe, Asia. Through Tehran they will inevitably approach India.

We fear that their actions will soon lead to a diplomatic crisis if not kept at bay.

Maybe the Chinese should stick with facts rather than faction. Our presence in Primoire is a long standing one, as anyone would notice having a look at the map.

China is also influencing the regions, so are we. If we are to be condemned, so are the Chinese.

That is not correct, not a single colonial decision has been played in Primorye since 1849. Chinese CP has actually decreased since pre-game values.

AUSTRO-PRUSSIAN ALLIANCE!!

London - Word has spread throughout much of Europe of a new treaty between Austria and Prussia. Is this a new military alliance of some sort? What is the purpose of this Treaty of Frankfurt? The British Foreign Office was blindsided by the publication of this treaty and it's purpose is unknown. Foreign Secretary Lord Palmerston stated, "The entire treaty is effectively secret and therefore we can only presume there is some military nexus to this agreement. A military alliance between two powerful nations in the middle of Europe upsets entirely the balance of power and will ultimately force all European powers into an arms race and a rush to form power blocs aligned against each other."

Prime Minister Lord John Russell was disappointed upon learning the existence of this treaty. He promised the British Government would look into the matter and he would bring punitive actions against Austria and Prussia to Parliament, if this military alliance proceeds.

The Prussian government is disappointed in the overreaction and the leaping to conclusions of the British government.

This is nothing more than an extension of the Austro-Prussian defensive alliance that has already been in existence for years now, and has previously generated no alarm or censure from HM's government.

The alliance will simply now be extended to run through 1860. There is no cause whatsoever for alarm in London, Paris, Moscow or any other world capitals. The status-quo is entirely unchanged and will continue to remain so.

The secret clauses simply clarify the responsibilities of both parties in various potential situations that may arise.

We do understand that some misunderstanding may have arisen from the clerical error that resulted in the primary part of the treaty being classified. That has now been de-classified and is freely available for viewing. We attach the pertinent clause below:

"The two parties, including successor governments and successor states, are bound to this pact until the 1st of January, 1860.

Both parties agree to a mutual defence pact [already signed in-game]. Should a declaration of war by a third party be the direct result of an offensive campaign by any of the two contracting parties, there is no obligation to join the war and/or give military aid."

Austrian reaction to stance of the British government
The secret clauses detail the Austrian and Prussian reactions to several political eventualities. Any nation would prefer to keep such matters secret, for they are integral to the geopolitical strategies as set out by our nations. As Great Britain will know, Austria and Prussia have already for long been bound through the German Confederation, which is effectually a defensive alliance. The new treaty was signed at Frankfurt, the capital of the German Confederation, and the secret clauses merely clarify concrete defensive actions that will be taken when either one of our nations or another member state comes under attack, as well as providing 'checks and balances' on our nation's foreign policies that will prevent painful misunderstandings.

Austria is frankly insulted that Great Britain thinks punitive measures are in order. This is an internal affair between the two primary member states of the German Confederation, a polity that came into effect as part of the 1815 congress of Vienna, a move that was also supported with Great Britain. If the British think that the since then continued and fruitful Austro-Prussian cooperation somehow became dangerous just now they should state clearly that they wish to redefine the conservative order that all Great Powers have sought to preserve since the demise of Napoleon. They would also have to present an alternative that would give both Prussia and Austria the security they have until now found in the context of our German Confederation - unlike Britain, our countries were ravaged still not too long ago by revolutionary movements and Napoleonic armies, and we seek to prevent this from happening in the future.

Should Britain come with constructive ideas of that nature and they can legitimize their fears, then we will gladly listen.

The Dutch government wants to express it's thanks to the Kingdom of Prussia and The Austrian Empire for clarifying this secret treaty. We feel that The British government was in the right to bring this situation to the attention of the world and we also thank the British Empire for that. The Netherlands feels that there is no crisis here but truly understands the reaction from the British government but does feel that the Prime Minister did use harsh language before the other nations had time to explain there actions.

Austrian notice on Wallachia
Over the past half century, the nation of Wallachia has suffered from rebellions, anarchy, and Ottoman oppression. Moreover, it has remained a destabilizing influence due to the so-called 'Romanian nationalists', stirring unrest in both Moldavia and Austrian lands. After deliberations with our partners in the region, we have decided to strive for the imposition of an Austrian administration on Wallachia as soon as possible, freeing the local people from anarchy and the continuing cruel yoke, abysmal management, and high taxations imposed by the unchristian Ottoman Empire.

Although we fully support Ottoman rule over Muslim lands, their oppression of Christian peoples can no longer be tolerated by the Great Powers of Europe. We urge them to respect the coming integration of Wallachia into the Austrian Empire, and again stress that we fully support the territorial integrity of the Ottoman Empire in so far as the regions concerned are populated by muslims - denying, however, the legitimacy of their cruel rule over Christian nations such as Wallachia.

Special report from Le Temps

Paris - The Louvre has seen an explosion of visitors in the recent months to see the collections of artifacts brought from Ancient Egyptian sites. This sharp rise in tourism was brought on by the news of the discovery of the long-lost Avenue of the Sphinxes in Saqqara by French Egyptologist Auguste Mariette. This, no doubt, will put Mssr. Mariette's name in an immortal place in archaeological societies around the world, and the French government intends to make this momentous event into an opportunity for dignitaries around the world to celebrate together in our common history.

Statement from France on Wallachia

Paris believes that it is one thing to have concern for the good Christians of a European people and quite another to demand incorporation into a foreign empire. By what right does Austria-Hungary claim Wallachia? This seems like a thinly-veiled attempt to expand within the continent, and it is one that should not be taken lightly by the Great Powers of Europe.

The Netherlands believes that Wallachia will be better taken care of under Austrian rule and therefore we support the Austrian's annexation of Wallachia as long as the majority of the major European powers support this move. We believe that the Russian Empire and the Ottoman Empire must first give there blessing's before an Austrian move should take place.

The Austrian Empire claims the status of protectorate over Wallachia for several reasons. First of all, we have been involved in this region already since the Austro-Turkish War of 1716-18, and our venerable Emperors have indeed ruled over parts of Wallachia in the past, before we were sadly defeated by the Ottoman hordes during the Austro-Russian-Turkish War of 1735-39. Secondly, we are the only Great Power bordering the nation, and would thus be, out of sheer practicality, be the most obvious nation to take over the region's administration to end the continued suffering of the Wallachian populace. Thirdly, we suffer from the so-called 'Romanian nationalists' that stir trouble in our borderlands, thus making the anarchic state Wallachia currently finds itself in immediately harmful to the order of our Empire.

Our wise Czar has decided to seek a compromise with the Ottomans and have decided not to press the issue of access to the Holy Land.

We also learnt that despite significant efforts by all the interested parties, relationship with France and Great Britain has deteriorated to a considerable extent. "We do hope that such an unfortunate event is only a temporary setback and Russia will definitely continue to work on enhancing relations with both Great Powers, just as well with others" an anonymous source within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has informed us.

From other sources we have also learnt that certain groups, especially within the military, are unsatisfied with the amicable approach and would have preferred and supported a more aggressive move.

The attachment 1852_EF_CrimeanCrisis_www.kepfeltoltes.hu_.png is no longer available

At the same time, the Ministry also issued a public statement supporting protection over the Danuvian Principalities. "Fully concurring with the Austrian statement, we strongly believe that protection by Austria should bring peace and prosperity to Wallachia and security to the Balkan, just as a similar status over Moldavia by Russia."

The British Government views this claim of a protectorate as nothing more than a land grab. It is obvious based on relations that the government and people of Wallachia do not support close ties with Austria. It is the people of Wallachia who should determine their fate... not the Austrian government.
