Battle report problem?

I've noticed multiple instances where the hits in the simple and detailed battle report don't sink up.

Simple says 37 to 38. Detailed says 6 to 34. This isn't the first time I've seen this. In fact, now that I look, every other battle in this turn is off by some amount. The simple report always has a higher amount of hits. Am I missing something?
