Strange battle result

Was playing as Severus and had 6 very bloody fights occur this turn in a single region. Some of the late battles said only about 100-1000 men were attacking my forces near the end even though I outnumbered them, yet there were tons of non-engaged elements listed on the battle screens for both sides after every battle.

Not sure what was going on for the attacker’s forces, but most of my elements were inside the city. I had lost a battle at Byzantium the turn before and had my large army move to the region with evade orders and enter the city. The enemy stack arrived just behind my troops and engaged a defending legion stack that was outside the city.
