BOR2 Samnite War: Winning play?

Tue Dec 01, 2015 1:19 am

I have played several games of the Samnite War scenario as both sides. It seems impossible to win as the Samnites. In the last game, we agreed the Samnite capital was off limits until it was the last remaining Samnite region. Still not enough EP were raised to purchase the options. Though the Samnites are presented with some nice options, these cost more EP than the Samnite forces can raise.

Perhaps if the Samnite generals had a mountain trait, this would help

Thoughts?

I confirm. I think mountain trait wouldn't help much if Roman player choose battle sites carefully. I think after capturing Bovianum and Volterra it is sufficient to have minor victory as Romans at the very last turn.

Some improvements and fixes for this scenario are available in Beta forum.

They should help, a little bit, the Samnite faction.

I'd also note that the scenario never seems to go to a sudden death victory for Rome. We had one game where all the cities on Italy were taken. But a single Samnite general survived. He promptly fled by sea, built a depot on an island, and the game continued. Even after his small force was crushed, still the scenario did not end.

Attached is a modification for Dictator Option.

Now Samnite faction controlling Capua will trigger the option instead of the standard Rome in Danger Area.
According to beta forum, it improves game balancing.

Unzip, copy in paste in your Events folder.
One file should be overwritten.

I can report that at least in one instance Samnites are victorious. Totally nice change.
