Why don't you put other units portaits for Alae and polibian legions ?

Sun Oct 13, 2013 3:42 pm

In the BoR folder, on my computer, I found a lot of units portaits that aren't used.
First of all you can replace the old hastati pictures with the last one in the post (or mantain the one that is already in the game, or put both ;) ). Then you replace the old socii cohors picture with the second one in this post. And the socii extraordinarii picture with the first one. In the end you can replace the princeps picture with the one with the hastatis in lorica hamata (that I have forgotten to put in this post).

I always thought that engine should be able to randomly assign portrait to a unit from selection of bunch similar portraits to maintain variety. That's the reason why i made variations. But maybe it would be confusing...dont know

Yes, i think it could be a little confusing having different portraits in units that are identical... but it's a shame because your additional portraits looks great! :coeurs:

I meant to change the pictures to have more historical accuracy. For example the hastatis don't have the SAME equipment as the socii infantry (but the picture is the same, why ?).

I see... i guess the scenario designer didn't noticed :bonk:
But indeed it would be nice to use more of those great Pangi unit designs to further differentiate units and give extra visual chrome to the game

I think it isn't difficult to change the pictures, maybe for the next patch :sourcil: , it would be great :D

I have actually found two folders with the pictures: can you explain how to change them?

Thanks.

So how can we change the unit portaits ? I'm tired to see the hastati with the same picture of the socii :(

It is really just a matter of renaming the units.
First of all you should backup the original Graphics folder :)

Say for example that you wanted that the land units using the pic named "Unit_ROM_Hastati1.png" used instead the pic "Unit_ROM_Hastati4.png". You just rename the "Unit_ROM_Hastati4" as "Unit_ROM_Hastati1", deleting or giving other name to the original "Hastati1".

Beware though, that land units are represented in game by 3 different kind of pictures:

- the ones in Graphics\Units\Land Units (mentioned above)
- the ones in Graphics\Armies&Fleets1\Land Armies
- and finnally the ones in Graphics\Portraits\Land Portraits

Meaning, if you change one, you must make the corresponding change, if available, in all, to keep coherence between the pictures sown respectively in the unit roster in the lower part of the screen, the graphics on the map armies and the pictures on the element panels.

EDIT: after making changes, you have to delete cached files - Units.Cached and Models.Cached (located in the respective Units and Models folders) if not, no change takes place

Happy modding ;)

I'm not able to change the Principes' images, and also the socii's images.....why don't you make an alternative patch with the changes ? I will tell you all of what I want to change ;) and maybe, for the Second Punic War expansion, it will be official and historical accurate :D (it's a waste not using those very good drawings, isn't it ?).

I forgot to tell you that after making changes that somehow impact on the models and units in the game, you have to delete cached files - Units.Cached and Models.Cached (located in the respective Units and Models folders) if not, no change in units or models takes place

Sorry about that
