Activation?

Fri Jan 23, 2015 11:05 am

Hi guys,

I was just wondering what "activation" is supposed to represent in AJE. I have read the relevant section in the manual today, and I know what it does to my units and that I can switch it off in the options menu, but what exactly is activation supposed to be?

For example, what does an inactive general represent in the game? Is he sleeping on the job? He hasn't received his order from high command? Is he incompetent? The envelope icon leads me to believe that he hasn't received his orders and doesn't know what to do next, i.e. he lacks the initiative to take his own actions.

Is that a correct assumption? Also, what would be a good activation setting for the optimal game experience? Should I switch it off completely? To be honest, I find the randomness of it challenging.

Will my consul get off his pampered arse to attack those barbarians? Or spend the next month in Capua partying like hell in his villa? "Pfffft, war, who needs it... BRING MOAR WINEZ!" :D

Thanks in advance!

v.B.

Hi

Activation state is indeed an abstraction of the AGE engine (found in other Ageod games, too) representing several factores that can lead to orders not being carried out by a leader, like you pointed (i.e., leader lack of initiative, incompetence, sickness, lost orders, etc). It adds an element of uncertainty that IMHO increases the game fun.
